Job Summary

We are looking to start this position between $24/hr to $30/hr. This job is going to offer overtime as well.

Position

Environmental Scientist position open for field support as follows (anticipated):

  • Full-time 40-44 hours or more per week;
  • Overtime over 44 hours/week at 1.5 times hourly rate
  • Weekday work typical; Weekend work as requested
  • Daily hours vary but typically 8 to 11 hours/day

Work Description

Provide field operations for ambient air monitoring programs and provide field support for other environmental testing programs as-needed such as for water quality and sources emissions. Ambient program field support will include operation of air quality monitoring (AQM) systems. AQM systems consist of multiple instruments at fixed and/or portable stations located in the community or near site facility perimeters providing continuous real-time measurements of meteorology and various ambient air pollutants including dust Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Total Reduced Sulphur (TRS) Ozone (O3) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Data collection uses wireless communication to transmit data to remote data acquisition systems.

Perimeter AQM Field Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot repair install and maintain ambient air monitoring equipment
  • Perform routine and as-needed QA/QC activities for ambient air monitoring equipment
  • Edit/validate continuous and non-continuous ambient air monitoring data for contaminants and meteorology in accordance with industry best practices and the Ontario Manual*
  • Review and amend as needed routine maintenance schedules for ambient air monitoring stations in accordance with manufacturers recommendations and the Ontario Manual*
  • Review and amend as needed lists of key spare parts for ambient air monitoring equipment
  • Routinely review and interpret data trends daily zero/span and diagnostic data and make recommendations for preventative maintenance or QA/QC activities
  • Develop/implement standard operating procedures based on the Ontario Manual* requirements for routine station visits maintenance QA/QC data editing/validation and training
  • Prepare quarterly/annual reports for continuous/non-continuous monitors following Ontario Manual*
  • Assist with troubleshooting TO-15 evacuated canister sampling using timed solenoid valves
  • Utilize and recommend inventory of tools needed for maintenance and repair activities.
  • Regularly review employee logbook entries and maintenance records.

*Operations Manual for Ambient Air Monitoring in Ontario as updated and published by the Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP).

Relevant equipment/software used in this position includes

  • Continuous gas analyzers including: Thermo 42 43 and 49 (NO2 SO2 O3) Teledyne T-100 (SO2) CDN-101 thermal oxidizer with Model 43 (TRS) and BAM 1020 particulate monitors
  • Meteorological sensors including RM-Young anemometer calibrator
  • Chromatography equipment/software
  • Airpointer climate-controlled enclosures
  • Environics 6100/6103 and Teledyne T-750 dilution gas calibrators and Environics 7000 zero air generator
  • ADAM ethernet I/O modules Envidas Ultimate series of software (setup reporter viewer) and Thermo Scientific ePort and iPort remote access software

Additional Qualifications

  • Relevant college diploma or university degree in a science-related field or equivalent
  • First aid and CPR training (preferred)
  • Medical physical with respirator-use clearance
  • G Class drivers license
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work at heights
