Job Title: Support Technician 3 Systems Administration

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Support System Administrator to support the migration and modernization of end-of-life (EOL) systems including legacy Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) platforms. The role focuses on upgrading these systems to supported OS versions to improve security performance and operational continuity.

The candidate will also provide troubleshooting configuration and post-migration support to ensure high availability and compliance with security standards.

Key Responsibilities:

System Assessment & Planning:

  • Assess legacy systems including Windows Server (2012 and older) and RHEL (5 6 7 8 9).
  • Identify migration priorities based on system criticality security risk and operational needs.
  • Develop migration strategies with risk assessments upgrade paths and timelines.

System Migration:

  • Migrate legacy Windows and RHEL systems to supported OS versions (Windows Server 2016/2019/2022/2025 RHEL 8/9).
  • Perform in-place upgrades if necessary following best practices to minimize downtime.
  • Implement data backup and recovery strategies before during and after migration.
  • Validate system functionality post-upgrade including performance checks and application compatibility.

Configuration Management:

  • Reconfigure system services and settings (networking storage security) post-upgrade.
  • Utilize configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible PowerShell) to maintain consistency.
  • Automate repetitive tasks with scripting for both Windows and Linux environments.

Security Enhancements:

  • Perform system hardening for RHEL and Windows servers.
  • Apply security patches and updates to legacy and upgraded systems.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and remediation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies CIS benchmarks NIST and other industry standards.

Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Serve as point of escalation for system issues during migration.
  • Provide ongoing post-migration support for both Windows and RHEL systems.
  • Troubleshoot OS-level and application issues to maintain reliability and uptime.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed migration documentation including configuration changes and issue resolutions.
  • Update system configuration records in CMDB and tracking tools.
  • Provide regular progress reports to stakeholders.

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Work closely with networking database and application teams.
  • Coordinate with vendors or support services for legacy system issues.
  • Communicate with end-users about planned downtime and system changes.

Training & Knowledge Transfer:

  • Develop internal documentation and manuals for updated systems.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices with IT teams for future upgrades.

Backup & Disaster Recovery:

  • Implement and maintain backup solutions for Windows and RHEL systems.
  • Update and test disaster recovery plans post-migration.

Post-Implementation Review:

  • Conduct post-migration audits for functionality security and compliance.
  • Identify optimizations or enhancements needed post-upgrade.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience administering RHEL and Windows OS environments
  • Strong understanding of legacy system migrations and OS upgrades
  • Proficiency with Windows Server and RHEL system administration
  • Experience with backup disaster recovery and system hardening
  • Ability to troubleshoot OS and application issues post-migration
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Ansible PowerShell)
  • Familiarity with security compliance frameworks (CIS NIST)
  • Strong documentation communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with automation scripting across Linux and Windows
  • Familiarity with post-migration optimization and performance tuning
  • Experience coordinating with cross-functional IT teams and vendors
