General Summary:

Here at West Texas A&M University our Residence Hall Directors (RHD) provide essential services to our students department and university. As an RHD you support our departments mission in creating a student-centered experience in our residence halls and programs. RHDs strive to ensure our students have a safe respectful environment to live learn and grow.

RHDs create meaningful connections with our students and provide support as they navigate their college experience. Our departments success is directly correlated to the contributions and successes of our live-in staff (RHDs and Area Coordinators) and the assistance they provide our residence.

The RHD position is a full-time live-in role that has primary responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of one of our residence halls on campus (175-300 primarily first and second year students). Key functions of this position include: student development maintaining high contact and visibility within the hall community building student staff selection and supervision serving in a campus-wide on-call rotation and reporting and following up on maintenance and safety concerns. Ultimately our RHDs strive to create a sense of belonging for our students to create a positive residential experience and to support the university in student retention.

The RHD reports to an Area Coordinator and serves on a team of approximately 15 Residential Living professional staff.

Responsibilities:

Operation and Administration of the building:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and administrative operation of a residence hall serving between 175 - 300 primarily first and second year residential students.
  • Report and follow-up on facility concerns to include maintenance cleaning safety and security.
  • Maintain and oversee your halls programming and staff development budgets.
  • Learn and use technology platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite Roompact StarRez Maxient and other departmental website applications.

Duty:

  • Participate in an on-call crisis rotation throughout the calendar year to respond to incidents and emergencies as they occur for a residential population of approximately 2000 undergraduate students.

Community Development:

  • Provide leadership and direction in developing and implementing student-development based programming to ensure alignment with departmental and university goals for student success and retention.
  • Foster a sense of belonging by developing meaningful relationships with students and maintain a high degree of visibility and availability in the residence hall.

Referrals:

  • Support students through personal academic and social concerns and make referrals to appropriate campus resources.
  • Serve as a non-clinical case manager for student behavioral concerns in your hall
  • Act as liaison with academic and staff partners and support Meta Major Initiatives (if applicable to your building).

Supervision:

  • Recruit train supervise and evaluate 5-8 Community Advisors through weekly staff meetings and regular one-on one meetings.

Advising:

  • Recruit and advise an in-hall student leadership organization including but not limited to: leadership development program planning and budget oversight.

Committees:

  • Serve on departmental committees and on division wide committees (as needed).
  • Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year (including undergraduate/graduate work) in student affairs.
  • Active drivers license.
  • Possess strong supervisory counseling organizational administrative and effective leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment and relate with students parents and faculty/staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in college student personnel higher education administration counseling or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in collegiate residence life in a live-in position (including undergraduate/graduate work).
  • Knowledge of StarRez Roompact and/or Maxient Softwares.
  • Have an understanding of student development practices and proven track record of implementing theory into practice.
