Education:
- Bachelors Degree or 4 years of experience in ministerial or congregational care in lieu of a bachelors degree REQUIRED
- Master of Divinity Theology or related degree from an accredited theological school preferred.
Experience:
- 1 unit of CPE from an ACPE Accredited Center preferred
- 2 years experience in a congregational or hospital setting preferred.
Skills:
- Good communication skills both written and oral. Competency in basic computer use and electronic communication tools e.g. email calendar.
- Ability to work with and relate to people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to offer non-anxious presence and work with people during a time of crisis and bereavement offering compassionate care.
- Proficiently document patient care in the medical record within one year of employment and demonstrate this proficiency.
- Ability to offer religious and spiritual rituals as requested by patients and/or staff. When appropriate ability to refer to outside clergy to meet patient sacramental or religious rites needs.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that supports various entities/locations based upon patient volumes and operational needs.
What You Will Do
Position Responsibilities: The Chaplain role is designed to support Texas Health departments of Pastoral Care to provide 24/7 support to patients guests and staff.
Patient care:
- Provide professional pastoral and spiritual care to patients and their loved ones using excellent listening observational assessment and interventional skills.
- Assess patient and family spiritual resources and vulnerabilities offering corresponding interventions.
- Document care in electronic medical record using Pastoral Care standardized processes.
- Ability to respond to calls within 10 minutes and arrive within 30 minutes. Provide on-call report when called into the hospital.
Support Pastoral Care Department:
- Report payroll exceptions promptly.
- Participate in Pastoral Care staff meetings.
- Be knowledgeable of and comply with all Pastoral Care Department policies and procedures.
- Complete required Pastoral Care Department training and any MyTalent modules when assigned.
- When providing in-house coverage participate in the ritual life of the hospital e.g. FINAL SALUTEs memorial services award ceremonies and other similar celebrations and special events within the hospital.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
