Minnkota Power is seeking a qualified student for a Plant Technician Internship at our Milton R. Young Power Plant near Center ND. The Milton R. Young Station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant providing a stable energy source for our cooperative member-owners. The station is located 35 miles from Bismarck North Dakota a growing and progressive city with many recreational opportunities.
This internship would be from May 2026 to August 2026. Wage for this internship is $26.35 per hour.
The student will assist with the following:
- Assists with the instrumentation/electrical maintenance installation and removal of station primary and auxiliary equipment.
- Typical equipment includes control system transmitters VFDs pumps motors valves conveyors and coal crushers.
- Typical duties include calibrating troubleshooting electrical wiring interpret logic interpret one line electrical diagrams and P&ID diagrams.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a student of a North Dakota vocational-technical school and enrolled in studies related to electrical or electronics or similar study with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Must have a valid drivers license.
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is primarily required to sit stand walk stoop bend and frequently utilize a keyboard/computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds reaching above and below shoulder level crawling pushing and pulling up to 75 pounds. Use of tools and foot controls and turning valves.
Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position the incumbent will be required to problem solve read write and analyze data work under schedules and deadline pressure present information to others work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.
Work Environment: Exposed occasionally to dirt dust chemicals extreme heat and cold vibration noise poor ventilation electrical risks confined areas and working at heights up to 150 feet.
