Key Responsibilities

The Freight Analyst is a key contributor to optimizing Applied Materials global freight network. This entry-level role focuses on modeling and visualizing freight costs volumes and operational impacts resulting from process or network changes (e.g. shipment consolidation onboarding new carriers). In addition the position may support adjacent functions such as Finished Goods Distribution and Logistics Engineering & Automation. The role requires building a deep understanding of the companys freight network end-to-end logistics processes and system configurations to enable data-driven decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

Freight Analyst Functions:

  • Network Optimization: Develop and maintain models to analyze freight cost volume and operational impacts of network or process changes.

  • Process & Data Improvement: Identify process and data gaps recommend improvements (e.g. routing guide updates) and enhance data quality (e.g. collecting new carrier data).

  • Advanced Analytics: Collaborate with the Freight Analytics team to improve machine learning models for freight cost estimation volume forecasting and data cleansing.

  • Reporting & Visualization: Support the development of dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights for stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Partner with freight operations finance supply chain and commercial teams to stay informed on upcoming rate changes carrier updates and supplier network adjustments.

  • System Implementation: Assist in implementing freight process and system enhancements.

Minimum Requirements: Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering or Data Analytics.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complexity.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and visualization platforms (e.g. SQL Python Power BI/Tableau).

  • Proficiency in Excel eg. VBA goal seeking solver function

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge of freight operations transportation networks and logistics processes is a bonus.

  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts is a plus.
