Job Summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Correction Intelligence Bureau (CIB) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Intelligence Officer to join the Corrections Intelligence Bureau. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of correctional facilities by gathering analyzing and disseminating intelligence related to criminal activities and threats within the correctional environment.

This position requires a strategic and analytical approach to overseeing complex and sensitive investigations related to policy violations within the department. The Intelligence Officer/Investigator will be responsible for a broad range of activities designed to improve operational effectiveness enhance team performance and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

-Conduct large investigations providing guidance and support to staff on complex
investigations.
-Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional
growth among investigators.
-Establish clear performance metrics and standards for the investigative team
monitoring compliance with CIB protocols.
-Act as the primary advisor for CIB in resolving difficult cases interpreting rules
regulations codes and policies to ensure consistent application in investigations.
-Provide expert consultancy during high-profile or intricate investigations offering
insights and recommendations based on analysis and experience.
-Coordinate with other departments and agencies to facilitate multi-agency investigations
and information sharing.
-Prepare review and evaluate all investigative reports and recommendations before
submission for administrative action ensuring clarity precision and adherence to standards.
-Help design and implement training programs for investigative staff that cover advanced
investigative techniques and compliance protocols.
-Conduct regular assessments of staff capabilities and provide feedback on continuous
improvement in investigative skills.
-Help lead highly complex or special investigations that may involve legal implications
privacy concerns or cross-jurisdictional issues.
-Participate in the development and refinement of investigative policies and procedures
aligning them with best practices and legal requirements.
-Help conduct periodic reviews of agency investigative practices recommending
enhancements to improve efficacy and accountability.
-Maintain constant communication with team members providing timely feedback
and support.
-Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all interactions with internal and external
stakeholders fostering a reputation for integrity within the agency.
-Successfully facilitates the training and development of team members resulting in
measurable improvements in investigative capabilities.
-Demonstrate adaptability and problem-solving skills in the face of complex and
evolving investigative challenges.

Qualifications :

1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more of the fields of accounting auditing correction administration criminal justice administration and planning forensic science inspection investigation law enforcement personnel administration police science and security or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above.
