POSITION:
Superintendent Dr. Pascal Mubenga is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

2026 SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
HIGH SCHOOL

LOCATIONS TIMESand DATES:Subject to change according totheneeds of the district.
Travel: Travel between sites may berequiredin order tomeet the needs of the district
Grades 9-12 High School Program:Full Day (7.25 hours: daily rate-1/200th)

Scoring:
August 20 21 and 24th or until exams are scored
(Location/Days/Times dependent on need and certification)

*Teachers willinstructfour (4) one (1) hour periods and have a one (1) hourduty period which may be dividedbased on scheduling needs. Teachers will also have one (1) prep period and a lunch break.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in aHigh Schoolsetting(i.e. experience conductingcredit reviewsan understanding ofgraduation requirementsand diploma types etc.)is musthave New York Statecertificationin the tenure area for which they are applying to in theselectionofcounselorswill be given to qualified permanent/ tenured/probationary/temporary Buffalo Public Schoolcounselorsin order of summer school school seniority is defined as previous years of BPS summer employment in a classroom current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority.

JOB SUMMARY:
Position requires the planning organization and implementation of theappropriate instructionalprogram to address the learning needs of the students; to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their potential in both curricular and extracurricular activities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ensure students are enrolled in the appropriate classes and assessments needed for graduation.
  • Verify graduation requirements for students eligible for summer graduation.
  • Complete the graduation screen in Infinite Campus for summer graduates.
  • Conduct credit reviews as needed.
  • Review and complete paperwork for special and traditional appeals exemptions and superintendent determinations for graduation.
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide guidance lessons and information.
  • Review the status of students as it pertains to academic and behavioral progress.
  • Assist students with personal and social issues which impede learning.
  • Provide counseling for students in the areas of self-esteem communication skills decision making and relationship skills.
  • Develop resources to assist students in learning educational survival skills including study skills and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Identify and utilize different instructional resources and methods to support the learning needs of students at varying levels of progress.
  • Monitor and encourage individual student progress.
  • Provide guidance to students which will promote educational development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Update records accurately and completely as required by laws and district policies.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Cooperate with and participate in the planning implementation and evaluation of the summer school program.
  • Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians to monitor student participation.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or other appropriate administrator.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and professional development as scheduled by the building representative.

APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training experience certifications credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
