Summary:
Major duties of the Production Bagger Lead are to ensure that the product being packaged meets all packaging quality specifications on the finished product and maintains high levels of product and packaging quality. This includes but is not limited to: inspecting all packaging seals code dates proper weights per bag and correct palletization of product. Checks and verifies both at the start of the shift and during product changes all bags and date code stickers etc. are correct for the product. This position requires operating equipment on the product line and minor mechanical repairs as necessary. Supervisory skills or background helpful.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load material and products into package processing equipment.
- Examine and inspect containers materials and products to ensure the product being packaged is within specifications; work with QA and Flake Operators to produce a quality cost-effective product.
- Measure weigh and count products and materials.
- Place product or materials into containers using hands equipment or fill containers.
- Remove defective products or materials.
- Trains and directs (with limitations) the activities of Baggers and Inspection Table personnel.
- Check Hyster oil levels and turn Hyster gas on ensure Hyster is not left unattended while the gas is on.
- Check scales and bag weights at the beginning of and throughout the shift. Verify two bags per pallet and record on the Shift Report and Packaging Log Book.
- Communicate with other shifts or departments about possible problems product needing blended line changes etc.
- Record all packaging information on packaging reports and all changes or problems in the packaging log book. Records must be legible accurate and complete in English.
- Responsible for housekeeping and general cleanliness and organization of the packaging areas.
- Checks at the start of the shift and during product changes that the bag date code stickers/labels etc. are correct for the product being packaged.
- Install clean magnets at the shift change clean magnets during the shift as needed. Record all material collected on the Shift Report and in the packaging log book.
- Check for mis-sealed bags; ensure bags are stacked neatly and without potential hazards on pallets. Transport all good quality product to the warehouse stacking pallets / product neatly in straight rows ensure row sheets and pallet tickets are on the pallet and easily read.
- Replace damaged bags prior to transporting to the warehouse. Clean any spills identify and complete minor mechanical repairs as needed.
- Monitor the aspirator area for possible plug-ups bottle necks or other problems.
- Complete check-out lists and necessary reports on time.
- Count and record rejected items and finished items that are ready for shipping / storage.
- Adhere to and practice safety policies at all times.
- Keep Manager informed of progress and/or problems.
- Completes other duties as necessary.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of production and packaging equipment policies and procedures to ensure the safety of product and personnel.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to complete paperwork and reports; basic math skills needed.
- Good communication skills both written and oral. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to monitor self and others to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Ability to delegate; must work well with all levels of staff.
- Safety and Quality conscious.
Education:
Education must be of such level as to allow for the accurate reading writing calculation and communication of the required materials and instructions to complete the job responsibilities. High school diploma/equivalent or higher education preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand bend sit or move repetitively for up to 12 hours.
- Must be able to lift on a regular basis up to 66 lbs without assistance and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to tolerate dust or chemicals.
- Ability to work safely around moving parts and equipment.
- Bending stretching lifting reaching climbing crawling and fingering required. Must be able to see and hear sufficiently to operate equipment safely in an environment with high levels of noise and low-lit areas.
- Quick reaction time good hand/eye coordination ability to perceive and judge distances and see details at close range.
- Willing to work weekends holidays and overtime as needed.
- Must be able to work in a manufacturing and general warehouse environment with exposure to extreme hot or cold steam dust wet / humid conditions loud noises low lit areas and cramped or crowded conditions.
Supervisor Duties:
The Production Bagger Lead will supervise people in their area of responsibility with the exception of hiring or firing authority or authorizing overtime hours. The Production Bagger Lead may be cross-trained on other lines as necessary.
Working Conditions:
Normal plant / manufacturing / warehouse environment. Hours of operation are 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Must be available for all days and all hours. Position is very physical / hands on. Will be exposed to high levels of noise heat cold dust and wet and humid conditions and all other environmental factors normally attributed to a packaging or warehouse environment.
