QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates qualifications may vary based on background and tutoring subject area. Tutors may include licensed/current teachers retired teachers aspiring teachers paraprofessionals and other interested individuals. An understanding of elementary and/or secondary school curriculum and teaching methods or a willingness to learn is required. Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and to follow the direction of school administrators and/or lead teachers is needed. Patience empathy and enthusiasm for teaching and learning is necessary.
DESCRIPTION
The Elementary School Tutor is responsible for providing targeted academic support to elementary school students (kindergarten-5th grade) in various subject areas. This role is geared to reinforce foundational skills foster a positive attitude toward learning and help students achieve their academic potential while having a focus on individualized instruction positive reinforcement and effective communication with teachers and parents.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions tailored to the specific academic needs and learning styles of students.
- Assist students with their homework assignments clarifying doubts and reinforcing concepts covered in the classroom.
- Help students develop essential study skills time management and organizational habits to improve their overall academic performance.
- Track and assess students progress identifying areas of improvement and areas where additional support is needed.
- Communicate progress reports to teachers and administrators.
- Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement participation and enthusiasm for learning.
- Utilize the provided teaching materials resources and educational technologies to enhance the learning experience and cater to diverse learning needs.
- Maintain open and effective communication with teachers and administrators to coordinate efforts and ensure students receive comprehensive support.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students promoting positive behavior respect and a strong work ethic.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Tutors work under the supervision of School Administration.
WORK CONDITIONS
Duties performed are typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing support to students for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing sitting walking and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups.
HOURLY RATE
$40 / hour
