Job Title: Senior Strategic Editor

1 Background and Purpose

Reporting to the Partnerships and Innovation Division the Consultant will provide senior-level strategic editorial and narrative-structuring support for WFP corporate policy-related and partnership-related publications. The role focuses on enhancing clarity coherence and decision usability and on ensuring alignment with UN standards WFP corporate frameworks and governance processes.

In addition to writing and editing the Consultant will provide upstream editorial guidance including advice on publication typology (e.g. policy strategy guidance) document architecture narrative logic and editorial requirements to support clarity efficiency and consistency across publications. The Consultant will work in close collaboration with relevant divisions and focal points particularly in the context of senior-level review clearance and dissemination processes.

2 Accountabilities

Under the coordination of the Partnerships and Innovation Division the Consultant will:

  • Provide strategic editorial guidance throughout the publication lifecycle including advising on appropriate publication formats outlines narrative flow section logic and editorial parameters to support senior-level review and clearance processes;

  • Provide editorial coordination and project management support for major publications including consulting relevant stakeholders coordinating inputs supporting clearance processes and overseeing production timelines in collaboration with relevant WFP units;

  • Draft edit and refine policy-oriented corporate and partnership-related content to the highest editorial standards ensuring logical sequencing narrative coherence consistency of tone and terminology and alignment with WFP guidelines;

  • Support coherence and alignment across related policy strategy and corporate publications including harmonization of language structure and framing as required;

  • Translate complex technical analytical and institutional content into clear accessible and high-level written outputs while preserving accuracy and institutional intent;

  • Participate as required in early scoping discussions to provide upstream editorial input on structure narrative approach and publication requirements;

  • Liaise with communications design and other relevant teams to support finalization and dissemination of publications as needed.

3 Deliverables

  • Strategic editorial and narrative-structuring support across assigned publications resulting in clearer more coherent high-level documents;

  • Revised and restructured draft documents suitable for senior management Policy Committee and Executive Board consideration as applicable;

  • Editorial inputs and guidance supporting alignment consistency and clarity across related publications.

4 Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced university degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant field;

  • At least 12 years of relevant professional experience in strategic editing writing and publications management for complex institutional environments including policy- strategy- and governance-level materials;

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-author multi-stakeholder publications including navigating high-level review and clearance processes;

  • Strong background in strategic institutional communications including narrative framing and messaging to support coherence credibility and executive-level contexts;

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical analytical and institutional content into clear accessible and high-level written outputs;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with people in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

  • Experience working with UN or comparable international organizational contexts; prior experience with WFP is an advantage.

  • Proficiency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second UN language desirable.
