This is an opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Accountant to step into a role where your work directly impacts business performance.

Supporting a national recruitment and labour-hire operation youll play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financials across payroll revenue and the balance sheet while gaining exposure to the moving parts of a complex high-volume environment.

The Opportunity

Working closely with an experienced Financial Controller and a collaborative finance team youll move beyond transactional tasks into a role that blends ownership analysis and continuous improvement.

This position is ideal for someone ready to step up from an Accounts Officer role or an existing Assistant Accountant seeking greater ownership and the opportunity to accelerate their development in a business that values initiative and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own monthly balance sheet reconciliations across key accounts
  • Support month-end close including journals accruals prepayments and intercompany transactions
  • Analyse sales wages and gross profit identifying trends and explaining variances
  • Reconcile payroll related accounts including PAYG superannuation and payroll tax
  • Prepare and lodge payroll tax across multiple jurisdictions
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve reconciling items efficiently
  • Support cash flow management bank reconciliations and funding requirements
  • Assist with audits and maintain audit ready documentation
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives automation and system enhancements

About You

Youre looking for more than just a processing role you want to understand the numbers challenge them and add value.

Youre naturally curious detail-oriented and motivated to build a long-term career in accounting within a dynamic and evolving business.

Skills & Experience

  • 13 years experience in a similar accounting or finance role
  • Degree in Accounting Finance or related discipline
  • Currently studying towards CA/CPA (or planning to commence)
  • Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to investigate and explain financial movements
  • Experience in recruitment labour hire or payroll-intensive environments (highly regarded)
  • Exposure to MYOB Advanced (desirable not essential)
