Job Summary

Job Title:Work-Based Learning Specialist

Location:CATEC

Reports to: CATEC Principal

FLSA Status:Exempt

Summary

The Work-Based Learning Specialist is responsible for overseeing Work-Based Learning opportunities and collaborating with the CTE Coordinator. This includes integrating CTE and real-world experiences to help all students gain an advantage in high school postsecondary education and careers. The Work-Based Learning Specialist is also responsible for supporting Career Investigations at the middle school and for preparing creating and implementing work-based learning for all students in grades 6-12.

Essential Functions

The minimum performance expectations include but are not limited to the following functions/tasks:

  • Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
  • Be self-driven and able to work independently;
  • Be able to use appropriate technology relevant to the job;
  • Communicate federal and state guidelines and VDOE direction to staff and maintain a high-quality level of compliance as it pertains to work-based learning;
  • Assist in promoting student recruitment in all CTE Clusters;
  • Provide support to middle and high school CTE programs for WBL opportunities;
  • Foster relationships with businesses within and outside the Charlottesville community;
  • Lead in the implementation monitoring and evaluation of career and technical education and special programs and projects involved with work-based learning such as internships job-shadowing mentoring programs and apprenticeships for students at the middle and high schools;
  • Assist in advising students and school counselors regarding secondary course options that lead to students becoming certified and/or involved in work-based learning;
  • Assist in developing implementing and evaluating rigorous workforce and college preparation pathways in partnerships with institutions of higher education;
  • Support with career and job fairs for grades 6-12;
  • Network with schools teachers parents community members and community businesses to develop community outreach for opportunities for internships job-shadowing and mentoring programs for students and to promote CTE programs;
  • Monitor the successful participation or completion of students involved in work-based learning experiences;
  • Visit students on job-sites and receive feedback from business and industry partners;
  • Organize and document all work-based learning experiences;
  • Follow school division procedures guidelines and policies for coordinating work-based learning experiences;
  • Assist in writing grants as relevant and applicable to CTE and work-based learning;
  • Act as a liaison officer with advisory committees community agencies other businesses and industry groups that have a vested interest in career and technical training programs;
  • Serve on community committees boards councils advisory committees teams and consortium boards as needed;
  • Serve on district advisory boards and councils as assigned;
  • Assist in effectively preparing and leading the CTE Advisory Board;
  • Work collaboratively with staff families and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population;
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development;
  • Maintains licensure at the state and/or national level; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials supplies and skills up-to-date;
  • Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with peers school personnel and the community to promote and support student learning;
  • Provides service to the profession the division and the community;
  • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies;
  • Maintains proper boundaries with students at all times assuring respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-student relationship and the essential duty to serve as a role model;
  • Participates in curriculum development faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as requested;
  • Works cooperatively with the total staff;
  • Assumes responsibility for the care of materials equipment and facilities;
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the building administrator(s) in accordance with the school/division policies and practices.

Education Licensure & Requirements

Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; must possess a valid Virginia teaching license (or be able to obtain one) preferably in Career & Technical Education; must have previous teaching job requires a drivers license and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

In addition to the education and licensure requirements the Work-Based Learning Specialist should have a proven track record of building and maintaining meaningful partnerships with local businesses and industries.

Job Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities by the CTE Coordinator and/or CATEC Principal in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
