About This Position

Louise S. McGehee School seeks an engaging and knowledgeable Upper School Chemistry Teacher who is passionate about teaching science and inspiring girls to think critically ask questions and explore the natural world. The ideal candidate will create a dynamic classroom environment that encourages curiosity scientific inquiry and confidence in STEM.

The Upper School Chemistry Teacher will teach chemistry courses within a college-preparatory curriculum foster analytical thinking and laboratory skills and contribute to the collaborative and mission-driven culture of the McGehee community.

Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:


Teaching & Curriculum

  • Teach Upper School chemistry and chemistry II including laboratory instruction.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with departmental curriculum and school standards.
  • Design and supervise laboratory experiences that reinforce core chemistry concepts and promote hands-on learning.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods including labs projects exams and written work.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback that supports student growth and mastery of scientific concepts.

Student Engagement & Support

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity and confidence in STEM disciplines.
  • Support the academic and personal development of students through advising mentorship and thoughtful communication.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with students and families regarding academic progress.

Collaboration & Community

  • Collaborate with members of the Science Department and Upper School faculty to support interdisciplinary learning and curriculum development.
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings professional development and school-wide initiatives.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school through advising student activities or other community engagement.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate student records and submit grades and comments in accordance with school timelines.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth and remain current in best practices in science education.
  • Uphold the mission values and policies of Louise S. McGehee School.

  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage lab materials prep work and instructional planning across multiple courses

In addition the following qualifications are a bonus:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry Science Education or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience teaching high school chemistry preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to design and conduct safe and effective laboratory experiences.
  • Strong communication organization and classroom management skills
  • A collaborative spirit and commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for girls.
