Job Summary
THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a Senior Software Engineer you will be part of an expert team of software engineers and applied scientists working towards keeping the delivery time promise for all Zalando customers.
Your focus will be the design development and improvement of a core software system that drives algorithmic order prioritization and fulfillment optimization in all Zalando this role you will face three significant challenges: ensuring the system adheres to the latest software engineering standards gaining a comprehensive understanding of order processing systems to identify opportunities for improvement and ensuring the software design supports the integration of complex multi-objective algorithms.

Deliver end-to-end solutions and set the standard for the entire development cycle including requirements engineering based on deep domain & business understanding prototyping implementing production software as well as testing and operating the highly available production system. You have 5 years of relevant industry experience as a senior engineer developing for JVM-based platforms with a strong understanding of mathematical and computational concepts. You have hands-on experience in microservices architecture and patterns Spring Boot REST Kubernetes Event Streaming Platforms architecture documentation data and API specifications (e.g. OpenAPI) quality assurance and testing methods. Proficiency with Kotlin and Python are considered a plus. You approach software design strategically and aim for reducing complexity and producing designs that are easy to maintain and extend. You have prior experience in operations and incident response you understand that production stability is a team sport. You are excited about working in a setup that requires a deep domain understanding (e.g. how our logistics order processing works) basic mechanisms of our optimization algorithms as well as operations research methods. You are a team player who thrives in an agile and cross-functional environment and is passionate about fostering a positive and productive work environment. You are fluent in English.
