The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for performing thermal processing of precision tooling components to achieve required hardness strength and durability specifications. This role supports production by ensuring all parts meet strict quality and metallurgical standards in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate heat treat furnaces ovens and related equipment (vacuum atmosphere or induction systems)
Load and unload parts while ensuring proper spacing racking and process integrity
Monitor and control heat treat cycles including temperature time and quenching processes
Perform hardness testing (Rockwell or equivalent) and verify parts meet specifications
Read and interpret blueprints work orders and heat treat specifications
Maintain accurate process documentation and production records
Inspect parts for distortion cracking or defects post-treatment
Perform routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoot minor issues
Follow all safety procedures related to high heat chemicals and equipment operation
Collaborate with quality machining and engineering teams to ensure product standards
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required (technical/trade school preferred)
2 years of experience in heat treating metallurgy or related manufacturing role
Strong understanding of heat treat processes (hardening tempering annealing case hardening)
Experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers calipers hardness testers)
Ability to read blueprints and follow detailed process instructions
Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation
Preferred Skills
Experience in a tool & die CNC machining or precision tooling environment
Familiarity with vacuum furnaces or controlled atmosphere heat treat systems
Knowledge of metallurgical properties and material behavior
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Standing walking and working in a high-temperature environment for extended periods
Use of PPE including heat-resistant gloves face shields and safety gear
