Position Description
Concordia University Wisconsin is seeking applicants for a full-time Staff Instructor in the School of Health Professions Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. This position will have instructional responsibilities within the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program including teaching didactic courses and providing clinical instruction. The position will also have organizational and business duties related to program operations. This is an instructional staff position and does not confer faculty status. Hours are equivalent to 40 hours per week however they may include some evening or weekend teaching responsibilities. The Staff Instructor will report to the Imaging Department Chair within the School of Health Professions.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Under supervision of the program director help develop curriculum and programming to ensure DMS learning outcomes and competencies are met.
- Improve and maintain program standards to ensure accreditation compliance.
- Assess student learning outcomes according to CUWAA and DMS program accreditation standards.
- Facilitate academic and clinical instruction for the DMS program.
- Assist the program director by representing the department for student visit day events and prospective student meetings.
- Support the program director in organizational and business duties related to program operations.
- May perform other related duties as assigned
Academic Instruction:
- Responsible for course design lecture assessment.
- Teach course content aligned with course objectives.
- Assess evaluate and implement course changes as needed.
- Plan administer and evaluate student assignments and assessment.
Clinical Instruction:
- Support scan laboratory exercises and assessment.
- Assist clinical coordinator in traveling and completing required student clinical site visits.
- Work with students in a clinical setting to assess scanning ability and clinical experience.
- Assure safe clinical practices by students.
- Communicate student successes and concerns to program faculty.
- Document the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence.
- Evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of clinical experiences for the concentration(s) students are enrolled in.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Competence in fundamental diagnostic medical sonography clinical skills and assessment.
- Excellent communication skills; verbal and written.
- Demonstrate effective leadership organizational skills and be a self-starter
- Ability to work independently and within teams.
- Exhibit a willingness and ability to work with diverse individuals and organizations.
- Able to deal with interruptions and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS).
Education & Experience
- Credentialing in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in Abdomen Extended Obstetrics & Gynecology and Vascular Sonography. Credentialing must be active and in good standing.
- Possess a minimum of 2 years full-time (or equivalent) clinical experience as a registered diagnostic medical sonographer.
- Experience in supervision instruction evaluation of diagnostic medical sonography students.
- Possess OR willingness to earn a masters degree within 3 years of full-time employment at CUWAA.
- Preferred experience in learning theory curriculum design teaching methodology and assessment techniques.
- Required to meet the health and vaccination requirements for all health care clinical affiliates who partner with the DMS program. *These requirements may vary from university requirements.
