Job Description
Position Summary
The Instructional Aide supports teachers in the classroom facilitates group activities and supervises students during lunch and recess. The aide also assists with instructional materials student assessment and classroom management tasks. This role requires close collaboration with teachers students and parents providing assistance in both academic and extended care settings including supervising students leading enrichment activities and ensuring a safe structured environment before and after school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom Assistance
  • Assist teachers in the classroom with lesson preparations and student management.
  • Facilitate and supervise small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
  • Make copies of instructional materials and prepare other resources as directed by the teacher.
  • Check homework and classwork record student scores/grades according to the teachers rubric.
  • Assist in reviewing student planners and noting any issues or concerns for the teachers attention.
  • Provide technology assistance to students as needed helping them navigate educational tools and platforms.
  • Help the teacher administer the STAR Assessment and other academic evaluations as necessary.
  • Attend support staff meetings and communicate any concerns regarding students to the teacher or Principal.
Hot Lunch Assistance
  • Coordinate the distribution of hot lunches to students.
  • Deliver lunches to Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms.
  • Supervise student behavior while students wait for their lunches ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
  • Maintain a hot lunch log documenting the distribution of lunches.
Extended Care Support
  • Check students in and out of Extended Care ensuring accurate attendance records.
  • Supervise children during their participation in Extended Care activities fostering a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Coordinate the distribution of snacks and maintain a clean and organized snack area.
  • Communicate with parents about their childrens behavior health or safety addressing concerns through the Incident Log.
  • Assist in purchasing snacks and maintaining an adequate inventory for the Extended Care program.
  • Report any safety concerns injuries or environmental issues to the Extended Care Coordinator Principal or office staff through the Incident Log report form.
Additional Duties
  • Assist with special school events and programs as needed.
  • Provide support in managing classroom materials organizing activities and ensuring students safety during extracurricular programs.
  • Complete assigned tasks promptly and effectively throughout the academic year.
Professional Development
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities to enhance classroom support skills and stay current with best practices in student engagement instructional strategies and child development.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written for engaging with students staff and parents.
  • Basic proficiency in technology and the ability to assist students with educational software and online resources.
  • Ability to supervise and engage with children in both academic and recreational settings.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards for supervising children during recess lunch and Extended Care.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or experience in education preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting preferably in a Catholic or faith-based educational environment
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic values (preferred)
  • Experience in managing and coordinating staff in a childcare or educational environment (preferred)
Physical & Mental Requirements
To successfully meet the needs of the students in their care the employee must:
  • Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the employee will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
  • Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans grading etc.
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting stooping or bending
  • Reach at below or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
  • Assist in moving childrens desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to from and within the classroom and preschool environment as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings trainings and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to from and within various city and county-wide locations to attend training or workshops.

Working Conditions
Working conditions include working inside the classroom and throughout the school. Schedules may vary depending on the assignment.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel is required for attending professional development workshops diocesan training days school-sponsored events or community outreach activities.
