Description

The Department of Endodontics seeks a full-time non-tenure Open Rank Professor and Pre-Doctoral Director of Endodontics. The PreDoctoral Director of Endodontics provides direct supervision instruction and evaluation of predoctoral dental students in all didactic preclinical and clinical simulation endodontic settings. The Director oversees and coordinates the teaching activities of full-time and parttime faculty involved in predoctoral endodontic education ensuring instructional consistency faculty calibration and adherence to departmental standards.



Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Provide didactic preclinical and clinical instruction in all aspects of endodontics to predoctoral dental students.
  • Lead the development implementation and ongoing refinement of the predoctoral endodontic curriculum ensuring compliance with CODA standards and alignment with best practices.
  • Oversee the simulation laboratory including instruction calibration assessment and continuous improvement of teaching exercises.
  • Deliver engaging and updated lectures seminars and casebased learning sessions in endodontics.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION:

  • Serve as the Director of PreDoctoral Endodontics providing strategic direction and administrative oversight for all predoctoral endodontic education.
  • Coordinate all faculty adjunct faculty and residents involved in teaching predoctoral students in endodontics.
  • Develop and manage course schedules syllabi assessments grading policies and course documentation.
  • Ensure clinical calibration of all faculty and residents participating in predoctoral instruction.
  • Monitor student progress and competency providing timely feedback and remediation plans when necessary.
  • Participate in departmental and college committees accreditation activities and curriculum review processes.

CLINICAL AND PATIENT-CARE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and support the delivery of endodontic treatment in the predoctoral clinic ensuring quality control patient safety and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Serve as a clinical role model by demonstrating current best practices in endodontics.
  • Maintain compliance with all UT Health Science Center state and federal regulations related to patient care and clinical teaching.

SCHOLARLY AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Engage in scholarly activities such as research publications presentations and continuing education consistent with rank and track.
  • Mentor students in research projects evidencebased dentistry and professional development.
  • Participate in professional organizations and contribute to the advancement of the field of Endodontics.
  • Foster a positive studentcentered educational environment focused on professionalism ethics and patientcentered care.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support integrated curriculum and interdisciplinary patient care.
  • Participate in faculty development department meetings and institutional initiatives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:DDS or DMD degree from a CODAaccredited U.S. or Canadian dental school or an equivalent international degree. Candidates should demonstrate a strong foundation in endodontics competence in teaching predoctoral students and a commitment to evidencebased practice professional integrity and highquality education.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:

  • Advanced training in endodontics with experience teaching predoctoral dental students in didactic preclinical and clinical settings along with a strong record of providing highquality evidencebased endodontic care in an academic or clinical teaching environment.

  • The role requires demonstrated ability in curriculum development student assessment and the use of contemporary educational and simulation technologies.

  • Possess strong clinical proficiency in both nonsurgical and surgical endodontic procedures excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty staff and students.

  • Familiarity with modern endodontic instrumentation digital dentistry and current best practices is highly desirable.
