The Role

We are seeking a highperforming Hardware Development Engineer to plan develop and execute engine lubrication and ventilation tests in a worldclass development facility. Responsibilities include handson test bench work data analysis calibration support and driving test efficiency through data reduction and virtualization of lab activities. This assignment requires creativity initiative and independent judgment as well as effective crossorganizational teamwork.

What Youll Do

Test & Bench Ownership

  • Execute engine lube and vent testing across multiple engine programs.
  • Develop implement and execute firsttime capable tests for hardware development and validation on engine dynamometers and test benches.
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of issues that occur during test setup execution and posttest investigations.
  • Track and report test status issues and risks to support program milestones and decision making.
  • Ensure all testing is conducted in accordance with GM safety quality and procedural standards.

Data Tools & Virtualization

  • Create maintain and utilize postprocessing tools (e.g. Excel MATLAB) to assure data quality and improve test efficiency.
  • Analyze data to optimize test plans reduce test time and support virtual model development and correlation.
  • Identify and implement data reduction opportunities including standardization of data sets and automation of routine analysis tasks.
  • Contribute to the migration of labbased activities to virtual methods partnering with analysis and virtualization teams.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with facilities technical specialists calibration teams hardware release engineers and other stakeholders to improve process and test efficiency.
  • Participate in the pursuit of test reduction and elimination working with design analysis and program teams to identify where physical testing can be streamlined replaced or virtualized.
  • Support continuous improvement of standard work procedures and documentation for engine lube/vent testing.

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Train mentor and develop new engineers and coops/rotators on bench operation safety and standard work.
  • Provide technical guidance on engines hardware lube/vent system function test methods and data interpretation to peers and partners.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Electrical Engineering Chemical Engineering Computer Science Physics or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in automotive engineering with engine knowledge (diesel or gasoline).
  • Demonstrated drive for results in a laboratory or development environment.
  • Strong planning and problemsolving skills including the ability to manage multiple test activities in parallel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others build peer relationships and work independently with minimal direction.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work and resources balancing urgent program needs with longterm improvements.
  • Proficient with computer and data acquisition systems used in test environments.
  • Experience in data analysis to optimize testing assess hardware performance or support model correlation.
  • Experience using and creating MATLAB scripts for data analysis and postprocessing.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with AVL PUMA/IndiCom and ETAS INCA software.
  • Exposure to engine calibration in test cell and/or vehicle environments.
  • 7 years of experience in automotive engineering with engine development or testing.
  • Handson experience with engine dynamometer setup and testing.
  • Experience with engine hardware and subsystems including lubrication and ventilation systems.

Work Location & Model

  • This role is expected to be labbased/hybrid with significant time spent onsite in the Pontiac test facility supporting handson bench activities.
  • Specific onsite expectations and hybrid details will be defined by the hiring manager based on business needs.
