Description
The Unit Manager is responsible for leading daily operations within the terminal to ensure safe efficient and on-time service delivery. This role provides leadership to frontline employees manages performance and supports a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement.
- Manage and supervise dispatch on road and yard operations for unionized and non-unionized employees.
- Create a positive work environment building employee loyalty and a team atmosphere
- Responsible for achieving objectives as outlined in the operational scorecard
- Responsible for managing performance of employees as per operational standards and indices
- Improve operational standards through reviews of employee performance coaching counseling and recognition
- Responsible for communicating and implementing policy procedure or programs
- Responsible for completing a variety of reports and documents
- All other related and assigned duties
Education
University degree and college education or equivalent experience
Experience
- 3-5 years leadership experience in operations logistics or transportation environments
- Flexibility to support various shifts including early mornings evenings or weekends as required
- Willingness to support hands-on operational needs including outdoor yard work in various weather conditions
- Energetic proactive approach with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced high-volume environment
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct fact-finding and workplace investigations as required
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience working in and managing unionized and non-unionized employees
Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
