Position: Certified Outpatient Medical Coder (Neuro Specialty)
Location: Houston TX 77024
Duration: 12 Weeks (Contract)
Shift: Day Shift (8:00 AM 5:00 PM)
Compensation:
- Pay Rate: $32/hour (W2)
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery. This role is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM CPT and modifier codes to ensure compliance proper reimbursement and adherence to coding standards.
Responsibilities:
- Review clinical documentation and diagnostic reports to assign accurate ICD-10-CM CPT and modifier codes
- Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Abstract and enter coding data accurately for billing and reporting purposes
- Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy
- Adhere to ethical coding standards and organizational policies
- Support quality improvement and coding accuracy initiatives
- Mentor and assist junior coders when needed
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience
- Experience coding for Neurology providers required
- Strong knowledge of coding guidelines compliance and reimbursement methodologies
Certifications (One Required):
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
- RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
- CMC (Certified Medical Coder)
- CCA (Certified Coding Associate)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in a medical-related field
- Experience in outpatient Neurosurgery coding
- Knowledge of HCC (Hierarchical Condition Category) coding
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system
Key Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of APC reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to interpret clinical documentation and apply coding standards
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
