Our highly respected Risk Advisory department in the UK and Ireland is primarily responsible for the delivery of consultancy-based safety integrity and risk management services. We provide high quality advisory services to the onshore and offshore oil and gas sector (upstream midstream and downstream) and increasingly provide similar services to the renewables sectors.

Within this our specialist integrity teams deliver a range of critical consultancy services such as failure investigation fitness for service assessment stress analysis life extension risk-based inspection asset health assessment vibration assessment and risk management to clients across multiple areas of their operations ensuring the effective and efficient continuation of their ongoing activities.

We are also leading our industry in advising clients how to repurpose their existing assets for the transportation of hydrogen or carbon dioxide to support the energy transition and deliver the innovative solutions that our industry and planet needs. This multi-disciplinary approach with materials and integrity engineers working alongside our other discipline experts drawn from safety flow assurance and rotating equipment is what makes what we do unique.

Our Opportunity:

As a Graduate Materials and Corrosion Engineer youll join a dynamic team of technical experts curious forwardthinking specialists who thrive on solving some of the most complex challenges in our industry.

From your first day you will take on meaningful responsibilities working closely with customers and technical experts across the business to deliver impactful career defining projects. You will have the time to grow your network access to resources that support your development and plenty of space to explore your interests and build your expertise.

Working from our office in Loughborough (Leicestershire) you will:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to provide world-class technical consultancy in areas including materials selection corrosion risk assessment cathodic protection and risk-based inspection
  • Develop your understanding of how materials challenges play a vital role in the transition and repurposing of energy infrastructure in the UK and globally
  • Engage directly with clients to understand their needs as they work to make the energy industry safer more resilient particularly focusing on energy transition
  • Build expertise in the teams service delivery areas including CO₂ hydrogen (H₂) and Biomethane
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary teams across DNV to experience how different expertise comes together to solve major industry challenges
  • Conduct forensic failure investigations on process plant pipework and other energy sector assets using our well-equipped materials laboratory in Loughborough
  • Apply forensic techniques such as microscopy metallography and chemical analysis.

Youll be assigned a buddy to help you settle in a mentor to support your technical development and continuous guidance from colleagues. This role is a fulltime position primarily based in our Loughborough (Leicestershire) office. Youll initially be in the office most days helping you get fully immersed with your colleagues and the work you will be doing. Once youre settled into the role and fully up to speed we offer a more hybrid model of workingtypically a 3/2 split between office and hometo give you the best balance of collaboration and autonomy.

The role will also include some work at customer offices and sites in the UK and overseas Flexibility and a willingness to travel are therefore essential.

Qualifications

As a Graduate we do want you to share our passion for your career development within our industry and demonstrate your desire to develop yourself within this exciting area. We try to keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum but there are a few essential things needed to qualify for this position:

  • Minimum 2:1 Degree in Materials Engineering Materials Science Metallurgy or Corrosion Science
  • Available to join the programme by 7 September 2026 at the latest. We also welcome applicants who have already completed their degree and would like to commence sooner
  • Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally including the commitment to complete the appropriate professional registration in your field (Chartership)
  • Excellent numerical analytical and problem-solving skills along with ability to produce clear and concise technical reports for our customers
  • Pro-active willingness to learn new skills displaying a willingness to get stuck in and undertake work outside your comfort zone demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative / thinking through the problem
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills confident in building professional relationships and demonstrating first class written verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives
