SUMMARY
The instructor plans and leads adventure-based activities that incorporate both high- and low-element challenges challenging participants physically and mentally in a safe controlled environment. They fit and inspect harnesses and helmets manage belay systems and enforce safety rules while clearly explaining each activity. The instructor facilitates group interaction through team-building initiatives debrief discussions and problem-solving challenges helping participants support one another communicate effectively and build trust. At the same time they coach individuals through personal confidence-building exercises encouraging them to set goals face fears and reflect on their growth throughout the course.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma general education degree (GED) or higher degree diploma; or a minimum of one year work related experience and/or training is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference may be given for previous teaching experience.
First Aid/CPR/AED: currently certified and/or be willing to obtain and maintain this certification.
The high elements on the course are approximately 50 above ground. Candidates will be expected to
participate in a hands-on observed demonstration of safe usage of equipment (harnesses ropes belaying equipment etc.) with demonstrations of climbing transitioning rescue and descent skills. There may also be a written exam of their knowledge.
Experiential Systems Instructor: Currently certified and/or willing to obtain and maintain this certification.

- Become familiar with the Adult Career and Community Development (ACCD) Instructor Manual.
- Confers with coordinator to gain knowledge of specific work situations to better understand changes in policies procedures regulations and technologies.
- Assists coordinator with selection and/or development of teaching aids and the selection of climbing and related safety equipment.
- Facilitation of Learning: Plan prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students in team and individual training programs. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit level.
- Classroom Management: Fulfill assigned schedule maintain accurate student attendance and create and maintain an instructional environment with emphasis on safety housekeeping and equipment security and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.
- Interpersonal/Team Skills: When needed participate in activities of the instructional team including planning development scheduling and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player.
- Student Support and Guidance: Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of team and individual training.
- Curriculum Development: Assist in the selection development updating and revision of curriculum and instructional materials which are experientially-based current and consistent with client expectations.
- Experiential Systems Challenge Course Training: Uses a variety of climbing belaying and harness equipment that follows specifications as required by Experiential Systems. These specifications include physical minimum and maximum requirements. Experiential Systems is an ISO 9001-certified full-service challenge course construction inspection and training company.
