JOB SUMMARY
The Salt Lake County Mayors Office is seeking a Communications and Multimedia Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This internship is ideal for students with a strong interest in government and political affairs and skills in communications production and graphic design. Candidates with social media experience and a passion for creating compelling digital content that informs engages and amplifies public messaging are strongly encouraged to apply.
Interns will support the creation and promotion of videos graphics photos and written content that highlight the Countys priorities and connect with constituents. This hands-on opportunity is perfect for candidates eager to apply their writing design and project management skills in a meaningful real-world setting.
Work is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule. There may be occasional work in the evenings and on the weekends.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor OR Graduate program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in graphic design photography and video is required.
Solid understanding of the different social media platforms.
Consistent demonstration of responsibility and initiative.
Ability to complete tasks under deadlines while managing multiple projects.
Motivated creative detail-oriented adaptable and dependable.
Knowledge of graphic design and layout principles with professional software.
Proficient in Microsoft Word PowerPoint and Canva or other design software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Creative acumen in graphic design and layout videography website and social media management.
Preference may be given to students with an educational focus on communication marketing graphic design and community engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop visual content and collateral to include flyers posters graphics photographs and videos to support digital and print needs.
Social media management and engagement.
Collaborate with other members of the Mayors Office and across county government to create compelling visual content.
Follow visual branding guides to maintain the design integrity of web properties and communications.
Work efficiently and effectively to keep projects on track and meet deadlines necessary to achieve department strategic goals and objectives.
Photograph and video events and other occasions as needed.
Create and edit videos with professional equipment/software.
Manage website according to industrys best practices.
Support the planning promotion and execution of events.
Other duties as assigned.
Must maintain strict confidentiality.
PAY: $18/hour
START DATE: The internship begins in May 2026 (start date flexible) and ends in August 2026. There may be the possibility of an extension.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Intern will work from the Salt Lake County Government Complex with the opportunity for remote hours within the state of Utah. They will be provided with a computer and an email account. Intern will be asked to attend meetings and events off-site at other government facilities or in the community. Interns may be sitting for long periods of time at a computer.
