TheSustainability & ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) Intern (Intern)reports to the Executive Director of Sustainability & ESG assisting global sustainability initiatives at Nexteer. The scope of this position is cross-functional encompassing multi-disciplinary fields including but not limited to sustainability (environmental and social topics) supply chain information systems data analytics ESG risk management sales & marketing and engineering. The Intern will assist in liaising between relevant corporate functions divisions and external collaboration partners to support efficiency and effectiveness improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support Sustainability Work Group (SWG): Contribute to scoping benchmarking data analysis and ESG risk/control activities to support informed decisionmaking.
- Drive ESG Data & Analytics: Collect and structure sustainability data (e.g. energy emissions procurement) and partner with IT and business teams to build dashboards and analytics tools.
- Enable Knowledge Sharing: Capture insights and coordinate with internal/external SMEs to support capability building.
- CrossFunctional Collaboration: Work with global stakeholders to develop ESG risk management and data analytics initiatives.
- Conduct Sustainability Research: Identify stakeholder needs analyze emerging trends and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Support Digitalization Projects: Integrate ESG considerations into broader digital transformation and process improvement activities.
- Coordinate Ratings & Assessments: Assist with sustainability ratings audits and ESG risk assessment processes.
- Prepare Communications: Develop summaries reports and presentations for senior leadership.
- Ad Hoc Support: Perform additional assignments as directed by functional leaders.
Job Requirements:
- Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Sustainability Information Systems Business Analytics Finance Supply Chain Environmental Science Engineering or related field.
- Experience with data analytics and visualization.
- Ability to translate analytical results into clear business insights for nontechnical stakeholders.
- Strong communication project management and collaboration skills within global crossfunctional teams.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
- Ability to work up to 40 hours/week in Auburn Hills MI (with occasional travel to Saginaw MI).
- Flexibility for global time zones.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks (e.g. ISSB CSRD EcoVadis GRI UN SDGs).
- Knowledge of GHG Protocol and relevant ISO standards.
- Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools and databases.
- Experience leading analytics or digitalization projects using AI or advanced tools.
- Understanding of automotive supply chain topics (e.g. Scope 3 emissions sustainable procurement labor practices resilience).
- Foreign language skills are a plus.
