Family Counsellor
Status: 2.5 days per week starts immediately new position
Location: In office Newmarket and work in York Region Community
Salary: $31000/year
The Womens Centre of York Region (WCYR) is seeking a compassionate skilled and trauma-informedPart-Time Family Counsellor to join our team. This role will provide counselling support to women and their families with a focus on couples counselling and family counselling for parents and children.
This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician who is passionate about strengthening relationships supporting healing and helping families build safety stability resilience and healthy communication.

We recognize that supporting women often also means supporting the family system around them including parenting relationships couple dynamics and childrens emotional well-being.
Position Summary
The Family Counsellor will provide short-term therapeutic counselling through a combination of in-person and virtual modalities. This role will primarily focus on:
- Couples counselling
- Family counselling for parents and children
- Supporting families impacted by conflict stress trauma relationship challenges separation parenting difficulties and family transitions
- Strengthening communication emotional regulation conflict resolution and family functioning
The Family Counsellor will also support case planning documentation referrals service coordination and collaboration with internal staff and external community partners.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Service
- Provide short-term counselling to couples and families including parents and children
- Conduct assessments and develop appropriate counselling goals and service plans
- Support clients with issues related to communication family conflict parenting challenges relationship stress etc.
- Provide trauma-informed strengths-based and culturally responsive counselling
- Make referrals to internal and external services as needed
Indirect Service
- Maintain accurate timely and confidential client case notes and records
- Participate in clinical supervision case consultation and team meetings
- Maintain service data for reporting evaluation and program improvement
- Liaise and collaborate with community partners and other service providers as needed
- Provide support letters or service confirmation letters where appropriate
- Contribute to program development evaluation and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Masters or Bachelors degree in Social Work Counselling Psychology Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field
- Registration in good standing with a relevant regulatory college in Ontario a must
- Experience providing couples counselling and family counselling
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed anti-oppressive and client-centred practice
- Experience working with women children and families impacted by violence trauma family conflict or relational stress is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of community resources and referral pathways in York Region is an asset
- Excellent assessment documentation communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
