About The Role

Primary responsibilities of the Accounting Policy Director role include providing relevant technical accounting expertise under both US GAAP and Statutory guidance for ongoing and complex transactions leading the implementation of new accounting standards and maintaining and updating the Companys US GAAP Accounting Manual for day-to-day transactions.

This position reports to the Corebridge Head of Accounting Policy & External Reporting and works closely with others within Finance including business unit controllers investments actuarial statutory reporting SEC financial reporting as well as the Companys external auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Research interpret and document complex accounting issues including those relating to insurance and annuity transactions ensuring compliance with GAAP NAIC and other applicable industry standards.
  • Identify potential accounting issues with proposed transactions and proactively work with internal stakeholders to identify solutions to issues identified.
  • Communicate complex accounting concepts and findings to internal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Prepare technical accounting analyses and documentation for complex accounting matters and support internal stakeholders responsible for recording and implementing such matters.
  • Work to validate technical accounting conclusions with the Companys external auditors.
  • Collaborate with other accounting policy team members and internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate accounting for transactions is identified discussed and all issues resolved efficiently.
  • Maintain and update critical accounting policies including conducting regular reviews and updates of accounting policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current requirements.
  • Monitor and proactively identify/research proposed new accounting standards and guidance (i.e. FASB SEC and NAIC guidance)
  • Lead implementation of new accounting standards including training of internal stakeholders on new requirements.
  • Review GAAP and statutory financial statement disclosures to ensure compliance with accounting requirements.
  • Develop relationships with members of other departments to facilitate resolution of issues and staying informed of potential future issues.
  • Assist in managing special projects and ad hoc requests.
  • Continuously assess existing processes to identify recommend and develop process improvements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • CPA License
  • 10 years of relevant technical accounting experience preferably within the insurance sector.
  • In-depth understanding of both Statutory and US GAAP accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Analytical and practical problem-solving skills with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating a consultative mindset.
  • Ability to communicate and explain complex concepts to internal stakeholders including non-Finance staff.
  • Proven leadership skills and positive attitude with the ability to make consistent sound and effective decisions with minimal direction.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a collaborative environment
  • Actively pursues learning and self-development to enhance personal professional and business growth shares learning and development with their team

Work Location

If the position is based in one of Corebridge Financials hub offices which are Houston TX Jersey City NJ. or Woodland Hills CA office the role is subject to our hybrid working policy which gives colleagues the benefits of working both in an office and remotely. However we are open to considering full remote candidates outside of these areas.
