The Scottish Fiscal Commission is a small independent public body with 28 produce independent robust forecasts and assessments to improve the transparency and scrutiny of the Scottish Budget.
We are seeking a motivated and analytically minded individual to join our team contributing to highquality economic and fiscal analysis that supports the Scottish Fiscal Commissions work.
There is no fixed profile for what makes a good analyst and you could be working on our economy tax or social security forecasts our analysis of Scottish Government spending or our long-term fiscal sustainability projections. Making sense of data and linking the findings of your analysis to the context is a big part of what we do.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys analytical problemsolving values highquality evidence and is eager to contribute to impactful work that informs Scotlands public finances.
Contribute to analytical work in specific areas.
Develop and maintain the SFCs analytical models.
Produce forecasts and other analysis for fiscal events.
Contribute to the SFCs reports in writing tables and data visualisation.
Assist in quality assuring formal publications.
Manage the engagement with the relevant policy officials and specialists in the Scottish Government and other organisations to ensure the analysis produced reflects the Governments policy.
You should have a first or upper second class degree or postgraduate qualification in a numerate subject (e.g statistics economics actuarial science). Other qualifications or experience equivalent to these may also be acceptable.

Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on.
Experience:
Communicating and Influencing - Level 3
If invited for further assessment this will consist of an interview and written analysis.
In the event of a high volume of applications candidates will initially have their application assessed against the Experience who pass this initial sift will have their application fully assessed against all of the listed criteria.
In the event of a tied score at interview performance in the Experience criteria will be applied to determine merit order.

Once in the SFC we can support you to remain in or join the appropriate civil service analytical profession such as the Government Statistical Service (GSS) or the Government Economic Service (GES).
Working Pattern:
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week but we will endeavour to accommodate alternative working patterns where possible.
We offer flexible working hours between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday. During peak times usually in the weeks running up to publication of our reports flexibility to work in excess of standard hours might be required. Any extra time worked is managed through our flexible working system.
We offer hybrid working. Our office is in central Edinburgh (EH1 3DE) and generally you can choose whether to work there from home or a mixture of both. You would be expected to attend the office in person sometimes for all-staff days all-team days or specific training events. We anticipate this would be around once a week. Security checks:
Successful candidates must complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) before they can be appointed. BPSS is comprised of four main pre-employment checks Identity Right to work Employment History and a Criminal Record check (unspent convictions).
