REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California teaching credential with an authorization to teach special education in a mild/moderate moderate/severe or Valid Speech and Language Pathologist credential
- Three or more years successful teacher experience
- Valid CLAD/BCLAD/EL Authorization
- Valid Added Autism Authorization
- Valid Driver License
WORK DAYS: 194 days 1.0 FTE
SALARY: Annual entry level salary placement from $63834 to $101303for a full time position;
Salary based prorated based on start date FTE and on prior experience and semester units above Bachelors degree.

TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM SPECIALIST
SALARY RANGE: Placement on the District Certificated Salary Schedule is based upon years of full-time credentialed teaching experience and units of college coursework beyond a Bachelors Degree.
SCHEDULE: Work 194 days per school year on the days indicated in the instructional and staff development calendars. (Must be available to work up to 10 additional days for ESY. Extra days to be paid per diem)
SUPERVISOR: Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services and/or Designee
JOB SUMMARY
Organize and direct activities involved in the development and implementation of curricular and behavior programs for students with disabilities. Coordinate communication and information to meet student needs; train and direct Special Education Staff as assigned. Utilize current research and best practice methodologies for staff training and program development and implementation for all students with special needs. Provide support to general and special education staff administrators and parents to help ensure FAPE for eligible students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid California Credential in Special Education mild to moderate or moderate to severe or
Valid Speech and Language Pathologist Credential or California License in Occupational Therapy
- Three or more years successful teaching experience
- Valid California Drivers License
- Interpersonal skills including tact patience and courtesy; strong verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two or more years of successful experience with students with disabilities.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop implement and revise training programs for LMUSD staff in accordance with best practice methodologies and procedures; provide site fidelity checks for curricular and behavior programs at designated school sites.
2. Model and monitor data collection and provide programmatic recommendations for classrooms and individual student programs.
3. Collaborate with and coordinate communications between staff and administration to assure program implementation and best practice methodologies in the classroom
4. Attend trainings and workshops to continually update professional skills as directed.
5. Serve as a representative for the District at designated multi-agency meetings and events.
6. Attend Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and assist in the development and implementation of IEP goals and behavior intervention plans as appropriate; attend and conduct meetings as assigned.
7. Take a leadership role in assigned Student Services projects programs and identified tasks.
8. Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier fax machine computer and assigned software; utilize cameras and audio-visual equipment; drive a vehicle to conduct work between sites; administer first aid and CPR as necessary.
9. Attain and maintain CIT Certification within six months of employment.
10. Lead Assistive Technology SCIA and Universal Design team assessments. Facilitate implementation of assessment findings/recommendations.
11. Build positive relationships with local businesses and agencies to support disabled students accessing the community as a component of their education as appropriate.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
A. PHYSICAL: Employee in this position must have the ability to:
1. Stand and sit for extended periods of time.
2. See and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
3. Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
4. Speak English so that others may understand at normal levels.
5. Stand walk stoop twist bend over grasp reach overhead push pull and move lift and/or carry 0 to 50 pounds to waist height.
B. MENTAL:
1. Able to concentrate on a single task for up to three (3) hours at a time.
2. Able to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of machinery instructions and task methods.
3. Able to meet deadlines in terms of work assignment schedules.
C. SOCIAL:
1. Interact daily in person with other members of the school staff and possess comfortable interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes.
2. Because of the time urgent nature of duties and because work product of position is interdependent with that of other staff consistent attendance is required.
3. Convey an understanding patient attitude toward other students parents staff and members of community.
4. Maintain the privacy of confidential information.
