POSITION SCOPE
The Pilot Truck Driver is responsible for safely escorting personnel and equipment/freight loads to and from designated locations in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role supports the safe movement of equipment by providing traffic control route guidance and hazard awareness while maintaining communication with drivers supervisors and project teams.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Safely operate a pilot/escort vehicle in support of oversize and overweight load transportation
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of pilot vehicle and required safety equipment
- Communicate effectively with truck drivers supervisors and law enforcement when required
- Monitor traffic conditions and road hazards to ensure safe passage of escorted loads
- Assist with route surveys height checks and clearance verification as needed
- Ensure all escort operations comply with applicable DOT state and company regulations
- Complete all required documentation permits logs and reports in accordance with company policy
- Fueling washing and basic upkeep of pilot vehicles and escort equipment
- Maintain a professional appearance and behavior in accordance with company policy
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid drivers license
- Current Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operator Certification (or ability to obtain)
- 3 years of previous related driving or escort experience (preferred)
- Strong situational awareness and ability to make quick safety-focused decisions
- Must be able to communicate clearly via radio and other communication devices
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with drivers and supervisors
- Willingness to work in the field in all weather and traffic conditions
- Acceptable MVR in accordance with the Company Vehicle Program policy
- Overtime may be required during peak hauling periods
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights weekends and travel as needed
