The Electrophysiology/Perimetry Technician (EPPU Tech) works directly with the patient performing preliminary evaluations and a variety of diagnostic tests. These duties may consist of the measurement of visual acuity lensometry tonometry pupil evaluation anterior chamber depth measurement instillation of eye medications obtaining medical history color vision testing visual field testing dark adaptation testing electro-oculography and electroretinography. Data is presented to the staffing Ophthalmologist to determine diagnosis and treatment plans for the patient. Accuracy and applicability of the patient data gathered is the responsibility of the EPPU Tech. The EPPU Tech is expected to interact with patients physicians and allied health staff.
High school degree or equivalent is required with one year ophthalmology experience. On-the-job training in specific job skills is provided. Strong communication and organization skills are needed. The Electrophysiology/Visual Field Tech must be able to work independently function in a high-paced multi-specialty area and produce accurate reproducible test results. Basic computer knowledge is necessary and must be capable of learning new computer skills on an ongoing basis. The Electrophysiology /Visual Field Tech must possess a friendly and helpful approach to patient care and be able to meet special needs of a diverse patient population.
