Job Summary

Who are we looking forThe Town of Cochrane is seeking up to two (2) Senior Summer Parks Workers to provide peer lead / working-lead support coordination and mentorship. This assignment is non- supervisory and supports continuity and safe work practices within our seasonal Parks team during peak summer operations. One Senior Summer Parks Worker will be assigned to the Mowing & Trimming Team and providing support to a Town wide string trim crew. The other Senior Summer Parks Worker will be assigned to the Horticulture Team and providing support to the flower planting/ weed removal is an ideal opportunity for a returning and experienced Seasonal Parks Worker who enjoys being a positive role model supporting others and helping the team deliver high-quality service to the position is non-supervisory and has no authority for discipline performance management scheduling hiring leave approval or other HR decisions. All staff continue to report to the Parks Supervisor or Parks Operators. Key responsibilities include:Act as a first point of contact for routine operational questions from summer parks workers in the field and escalate issues to the Parks Supervisor or Parks Operators as coordinate day-to-day tasks by supporting and communicating priorities set by the Parks Supervisor or Parks Operators helping the crew understand expectations and flagging barriers or changes in the onboarding by helping new summer parks workers learn routines equipment basics site standards and safe work with tracking and communicating field updates (e.g. site conditions supply needs work completed).Model professionalism respectful conduct and strong customer service in public-facing other summer parks workers on quality standards efficiency and safe work a collaborative team environment by addressing minor questions early reinforcing team standards and safe work practices and flagging concerns promptly to the Parks Supervisor or Parks OperatorsReinforce safe work procedures hazard awareness and PPE completion of daily safety requirements (e.g. toolbox talks FLHAs pre-use checks) and remind the crew of requirements; escalate concerns to the Parks Supervisor or Parks OperatorsReport hazards near-misses or incidents promptly to the Parks Supervisor or Parks OperatorsPerform general Parks duties alongside the team (e.g. mowing trimming litter collection watering support basic maintenance tasks facility/park cleanliness)Qualifications Skills and AbilitiesEducation and Experience:Required:Eligible for Summer employment (as per Town requirements).Minimum of two (2) seasons of employment in the Town of Cochrane Seasonal Parks Worker to work the full term May 4th August 28th 2026Demonstrated experience guiding and supporting coworkers in a team-based environmentExperience operating and maintaining equipment (hand tools mowers trimmers etc.)Valid Class 5 drivers license and ability to provide a satisfactory drivers abstract if to perform physical outdoor work (lifting bending walking repetitive tasks) in varying weather reliability punctuality and a strong safety :Experience operating lawn tractors rotary mowers gas-powered trimmers trailering and 1-ton or 3-ton trucksSkills and Abilities:Required:Physically able to perform required duties and manual tasksSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team environmentAbility to understand and carry out instructions and perform manual tasksMechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsBasic computer skillsAbility to provide guidance to others while actively participating in work knowledge of Town of Cochrane Parks operations procedures and safety practicesPreferred:Safe use of hand tools as well as small and large mobile equipmentKnowledge of methods materials and equipment used in routine maintenance landscaping and construction tasksCertifications Licenses and/or Designations:Required: A valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers LicenseHow this assignment will be filled This is a temporary operational assignment within the Seasonal Summer Parks Worker team for the 2026 season. It is not a permanent vacancy and ends at the conclusion of the seasonal candidates will submit a brief Expression of Interest included in their application.
