Purpose and Scope
Provides interpreting and other support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing who are participating in inclusive or self-contained settings during the school day and during extra-curricular activities. Interprets for students and provides appropriate signs to students and staff when needed. Provides guidance and assistance to students as needed and performing related work as assigned. Works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates Degree in Education Special Education Sign Language/Interpretation or a closely related field plus a minimum of one (1) years of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education training and/or directly relevant experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this position. Requires a minimum 3.0 certification on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment. Experience working with students in an instructional environment preferred. Current SCS Deaf Interpreters in good standing preferred.
The following special conditions are required: Commitment for the entire period of summer school. Attendance at ALL periodic administrative meetings. Availability for summer school closeout operations.
This position is for EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR PERIOD AND SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS ONLY.
Degree Equivalency Formula:
30 Semester hours 1 year of college (multiply quarter hours by.067 to convert to semester hours)
Associate degree 2 years of college plus required years of experience. Note: 2 associate degrees do NOT equal a bachelors degree.
Bachelors Degree 4 years plus required years of experience.
