Job Summary

The CAD Administrator is responsible for:

  • maintenance of the and further development of a mechanical design library (catalogues and specs) which meets the requirements of the proposal or project
  • providing support and guidance for the deployment adoption and maintenance of the entire suite of Autodesk CAD tools
  • providing technical support regarding mechanical design aspects of the tools used throughout projects

In general the CAD administrator will work as part of a mechanical design team and will collaborate closely with other team members and functional disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the project scope.

It is expected that the successful candidate will possess experience of using CAD tools for the design of process piping systems and so will be able to bring practical know-how as well as theoretical knowledge to the role. Equally the candidate must be methodical and disciplined in thinking and working style to ensure that developments are implemented in a structured fashion and driven through user adoption to completion.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The CAD Administrators duties include but are not limited to the following:

CAD Administrator

The primary role of the CAD Administrator will be to manage maintain and further develop the global CAD tools infrastructure which serves a substantial team of Process & Mechanical Engineers spread across multiple locations around the world:

  • Engineering Document Management System (Autodesk Vault)
    • Provide guidance and leadership on the design and deployment of the Systems Engineering Global Vault
    • Provide governance on any requested modifications to the Vault structure and specifications
  • CAD Tools
    • Provide guidance and leadership on the deployment of Autodesk tools including (but not limited to)
      • AutoCAD
      • Inventor
      • Plant 3D
      • Plant 3D P&ID
    • Provide governance on any requested modifications to the structure and specifications of these tools
    • Maintain content within tools databases (e.g. catalogues content centres) to ensure currency of information
    • Further expand and develop tools data to include additional content or improve existing to suit evolving business needs and continuous improvement expectations
  • Drawing Office Standards / Best Practices
    • Create and maintain global drawing office standards
      • Drawing office manual
      • CAD usage Reference Guides
      • Work with Data Manager to maintain tagging standards file naming and storage conventions etc
    • Provide guidance/recommendations on CAD training requirements
    • Interact on project standards coordination with Lead Project Engineers & project team in response to customer contractual requirements

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Qualified professionals will have a minimum 5 - 10 years of experience with prior work done on process industry projects.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant discipline advantageous.
  • Experienced and proficient with use of Autodesk products.
  • Must possess sound knowledge of engineering principals and the relationship between the various process equipment and utilities / buildings.
  • Strong communication and planning skills are a must including use of Office tools (Word Excel and Power Point)
  • International travel related to introduction and training SPX standards at other engineering centres as well as performing audits of compliance with standards.
  • Must demonstrate ability to see project through to completion.
  • Working independently systematically and at times perform multitasking in a busy team-based environment.
  • Social competencies to work in a complex international organization.
  • A good sense of humour

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • . or similar in Mechanical engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • Fluent in English with good writing skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

In general this is an office-based job with a considerable amount of time spent at a computer. Ability to travel to other SPX locations and customer sites is a requirement. WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to travel globally up to approximately 15% of the time.
