This role is responsible for leading the design implementation and continuous enhancement of Governance & Operational Risk frameworks across Marketing ensuring robust consistent and commercially enabling controls that safeguard value strengthen decision-making and support sustainable cash flow generation across all commodities and legal entities.
Key Responsibilities include:
Leadership
- Lead the development and visibility of Governance & Operational Risk across Marketing establishing it as a trusted value-adding partner to the business.
- Act as a subject matter expert in governance and operational risk leading by example and serving as a credible ambassador for Marketing Commodity Risk in engagements with senior stakeholders across Marketing and Group functions.
- Partner with the Head of Commodity Risk to drive alignment and consistency across governance frameworks internal Marketing policies Delegations of Authority and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Set clear objectives and priorities for the Governance & Operational Risk team ensuring effective execution accountability and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of disciplined risk management constructive challenge and operational excellence across Marketing.
- Develop coach and empower team members building capability and succession strength within the function.
Governance & Operational Risk:
- Own and continuously enhance the Marketing Governance & Operational Risk Framework ensuring it is scalable forward-looking and aligned to Commodity Risk strategy and business priorities.
- Provide governance oversight and expert challenge across key approval and risk forums (including MRC ICA and Routes to Market) ensuring disciplined decision-making and appropriate escalation of material risks.
- Lead the harmonisation and simplification of Marketing Delegations of Authority (DAF) Manual of Authorities (MOA) and ICA frameworks to drive clarity accountability and consistent application across all Marketing legal entities.
- Design and embed robust front-to-back operating models and controls that strengthen risk discipline while preserving commercial agility in trading activities.
- Establish structured reviews of control effectiveness and policy adherence across commodities ensuring timely remediation of gaps and reinforcing clear ownership of risk.
- Own the end-to-end incident reporting and escalation framework driving disciplined root cause analysis thematic trend monitoring and sustained control enhancement.
- Develop and maintain a robust Key Risk Indicator (KRI) framework embedding forward-looking risk metrics that provide early warning signals and support proactive risk mitigation.
- Lead initiatives to optimise control design streamline workflows and improve process efficiency fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Drive clear communication and targeted training on governance standards and framework changes to ensure understanding accountability and consistent execution across Marketing.
- Balance strong governance discipline with commercial enablement ensuring frameworks protect value while supporting efficient and effective trading execution.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and coordinate the preparation and presentation of materials to the Marketing Risk Committee (MRC) ensuring clarity rigour and appropriate challenge.
- Ensure timely and transparent escalation of Risk and Governance exposures to relevant Marketing legal entities and senior stakeholders driving informed decision-making and accountability.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Marketing Managers Finance and Group stakeholders on governance interpretation risk implications and control expectations.
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment between Marketing Front Office and Functions to ensure consistent application of governance standards across jurisdictions.
- Act as the primary focal point within Marketing for Risk and Internal Audit engagements supporting the business in reviewing audit reports constructively challenging the accuracy and completeness of findings and ensuring timely tracking and closure of agreed remediation actions.
System Development
- Contribute governance & operational risk subject matter expertise to system transformation initiatives to ensure controls are embedded by design.
- Ensure system solutions support transparency auditability and efficient workflow management consistent with Marketings policies and procedures.
Team Support
- Provide clear direction coaching and performance management to direct reports fostering accountability technical excellence and continuous development.
- Build a high-performing Governance & Operational Risk team with strong commercial awareness and disciplined risk management capability.
- Promote a culture of constructive challenge collaboration and operational excellence within the team and across Marketing.
Qualifications :
- University degree or Post Graduate qualification in relevant field such as Accounting or Economics.
Specific Knowledge requirements:
- An understanding of the operations end to end processes and document flow in a physical commodity trading environment.
- A clear understanding of best practice organisational design and allocation of roles and responsibilities.
- A good understanding of governance related controls.
- A good understanding of organisational structure design
- A mindset of change management streamlining of processes and process improvement specifically in Risk area.
