BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
WFPs Analysis Planning and Performance Division conducts food security analysis including geospatial and economic analysis food security monitoring and assessments post-shock assessments and thematic analysis. Information from these analyses allows WFP to perform effective targeting determine the most appropriate type and scale of intervention and ensure the most efficient use of humanitarian resources by allocating funding according to needs.
The Assessment & Targeting Unit within APP seeks a communications consultant to: i) provide strategic communications; ii) oversee and coordinate communications priorities across APP including the development of communications products materials and infrastructure; iii) oversee the delivery and development of the Assessment & Targeting Units communications portfolio including content strategy and initiatives; iv) supervise other communications staff; v) develop impactful content and data storytelling
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a communications strategy in coordination with APP & Assessment & Targeting Units leadership
- Provide increased visibility and communications support for APPs work
- Develop APPs internal and external communications infrastructure and brand
- Oversee coordination of all communication activities and priorities within APP working with communications focal points across the division
- Establish and maintain APP and Assessment & Targeting Units brand and priority initiatives/products
which can include:
- Building collaborations with external and internal stakeholders
- Securing internal or external placements for our products and content
- Planning and developing engagements for events (conferences summits panels presentations etc.)
- Supervise communications staff to oversee the development of:
- Recurring and engaging content (written audio visual) across all APP channels (social media blogs internal and external platforms)
- Work closely with APPs information management staff to ensure that contentappearing on APP web platforms is engaging and meets a high standard
- Provide ad hoc communications support to Divisional Leadership for key initiatives events presentations and engagements; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
- Develop oversee and coordinate communications for APP with an aim to:
- Strengthen APP internal brand by leveraging WFPs internalplatforms and WFP-wide learning opportunities.
- Strengthen the Assessment & Targeting Units social media presence and engagement.
- Produce engaging content (audiovisual/written/graphic etc) showcasing both APP and Assessment & Targeting Units data insights and products across a range of WFP and partner platforms.
- Establish communications-focused collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop a communications strategy for both APP and Assessment & Targeting Unit
- Provide timely communications support across leadership priorities includingWFPs Strategic Plan flagship reports or events.
- Support missions undertaken on demand
- Timely Unit and Divisional Support provided as requested
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Advanced university degree in social sciences humanities Journalism International Relations Public Relations Communications Marketing or other relevant fields.
Experience:
Experience with public relations or strategic communications work producing audio/visual/graphic/written content for various communications channels. Experience with data visualization and design. Knowledge of WFPs communications work and RAMs key products UI/UX design and food security analysis experience.
Experience in data story telling.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of HTML CSS and Wordpress; Proficiency in Adobe Creative suite and MS Office; Knowledge of audio and video producing software tools.
Languages:
Excellent spoken and written English.
