JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Occupational Therapist

Reports to: Special Service Director and Building Principal

FLSA Class: Exempt

Effective Date: July 1 2018

Summary:

To help students improve basic motor functions along with cognitive and emotional abilities and to help them compensate for loss of function which will lead students to experience independent productive and satisfying lives.

Duties:

  1. Complete evaluations to determine eligibility for services (includes standardized assessments observation teacher/parent interview report write-up and subsequent IEP paperwork).
  2. Complete observations to determine students need for further assessment of skills.
  3. Complete observations to provide both regular education and special education teachers with activity ideas adaptations and/or accommodations within their classrooms to address student delays/difficulties.
  4. Write goals and minute recommendations based on student areas of weakness.
  5. Treat students based on their deficit areas.
  6. Complete daily documentation of student activities progress and behavior.
  7. Complete quarterly progress documentation.
  8. Provide consultation services to teaching staff.
  9. Provide adaptive equipment and train teaching staff on its use.
  10. Collaborate with teachers and co-workers to establish a schedule based on students IEP minutes.
  11. Submit Medicaid billing on a monthly basis.
  12. Train teachers and assistants on student handling and safe student transfers.
  13. Develop fire evacuation plans for students with physical disabilities.
  14. Communicate with parents on a regular basis.
  15. Communicate with team members on a continual basis to monitor student progress.
  16. Assist in completing student Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  17. Assist in recommendations for student programming.
  18. Participate in Response To Intervention meetings and student interventions upon request.
  19. Member of Autism Diagnostic Team (participation includes completing observations evaluations and consultation of students suspected of being on the Autism Spectrum).

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. License for the particular position as required by the State.
  2. Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail the Internet word processing and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  3. Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students parents and staff).
  4. Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  5. Ability to communicate to students parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
