The Senior Health & Safety Specialist oversees the deployment of relevant regulatory programs required to maintain compliance in an industrial facility. This includes but is not limited to lockout/tagout emergency preparedness hazard communication confined spaces elevated work powered industrial trucks pedestrian safety ergonomics hearing conservation personal protective equipment machine guarding respiratory protection combustible dusts industrial hygiene electrical safety and contractor safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Drive enhancement of the safety culture through interactive sessions with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Recognize assess and control safety and health hazards in the facility support development of Job Safety Hazard Analysis activities.
- Conduct safety and hygiene audits reporting and partnering with area owners to address identified concerns.
- Act as a key leader for internally motivated safety values where the team works together to promote organizational pride in safety care for coworkers personal safety and encourages discussion about safe and unsafe behaviors.
- Lead incident investigations including root cause analysis with corrective actions identified to prevent recurrence. Develop detailed investigation reports.
- Ensure compliance of environmental health and safety (EHS) requirements and regulations enforced through OSHA DOT FDA and other state and federal regulations.
- Act as key facilitator of health and safety training for employees and contractors focusing on building competency recognition of risks and hazard mitigation efforts.
- Lead committees to help drive employee involvement and commitment to safe behaviors.
- Manage the site Leading and Lagging Indicator database and provide trend analysis and key performance indicator (KPI) data at an established frequency as well as upon request.
- Oversee EHS vendor and department supply purchase requisitioning and procurement. Provide key purchasing data and trend analysis to the management to drive departmental budgeting decisions.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health engineering industrial hygiene or related field.
- 8 years experience in health and safety in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with a broad variety of coworkers.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office suite including Excel Outlook and Word.
- Ability to prioritize daily assignments in a fast-paced team orientated ever-changing manufacturing environment.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small and large group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization to facilitate training and/or EHS messaging.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
- Masters degree in a related field.
