Job Summary

Tetūnga The role

We have a full-time fixed-termopportunity for a Public Health Physician(PHP)with interest and experience in communicable disease surveillance. We have a range of projects with significant impact and ongoing work critical to the public health system in New Zealand.

The key functions of a PHPatPHF Scienceare:

  • Provision of professional advice to the Public Health Agency Health New Zealand National Public Health Service and other stakeholders on the surveillance investigationpreventionand control of health events of public health importance.
  • Identifying and interpreting disease trends and emerging hazards particularly related to communicable diseases.
  • Initiating designingexecutingand leading outbreak investigations and research projects to describe the distribution of health events and their aetiology.
  • Supporting local and national outbreak investigations.
  • Coordinating multi-jurisdictional outbreak responses alongside other agencies such as the Public Health Agency HealthNew Zealandand Ministry for Primary Industries.
  • Support the provision of clinical governance to the work of the Health Intelligence and Surveillance team and wider Health Group.

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Medical degree registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

  • Vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council in Public Health Medicine.

  • Appropriate postgraduate training and eligibility for vocational registration with of the New Zealand Medical Council in Public Health Medicine or within six months of being eligible.

  • Interest in surveillance-based epidemiology or emergency response.

  • Ability to work across multiple parties including government departments.

  • Experience in building successful relationships internally and externally.
