Your role:
CBC News Network is looking for a dynamic and experienced producer/vetter to join the team that plans and crafts CBC News Morning Live with David Common.
Based in Toronto this is a full-time position scheduled as Monday to Friday 3:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in office.
Your main responsibility is editing and writing broadcast copy adhering to best practices CBCs Language and Style guide and CBC Journalistic Standards & Practices. This role is crucial in fulfilling CBC News Networks mission to prioritize live breaking news that resonates with and is relevant to Canadians across the country.
We are looking for someone with an impeccable eye for accuracy in content and style standards. You are a creative critical thinker with a strong editorial vision and an audience-first mindset. You should be passionate about pitching engaging content ideas bringing your unique experiences and perspectives to the table. Youre also someone who understands that every second counts in a morning news program. Adaptability is keyyou thrive in fast-paced environments where you may need to adjust content from hour-to-hour or even minute-to-minute.
While breaking news is central to our mission you understand the importance of producing programs that balance urgency with captivating stories and meaningful conversations. You look for new ways to connect with and engage our audience making sure we acknowledge shared moments in our scripts and content. You have a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective opinion and experience. Youre skilled at troubleshooting and will be tasked with tweaking scripts coaching others through the changes and writing breaking copy as needed.
This is a collaborative work environment so being a team player with excellent communication skills is essential. You have a proven ability to juggle and prioritize multiple stories and tasks thriving in a fast-paced setting. And of course you know how to have fun along the way!
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
A University degree or equivalent.
Five (5) years of experience of which three must involve work in a broadcast news environment.
Superior leadership and coaching skills with the demonstrated ability to mentor and encourage creativity.
Experience in pitching stories and translating those ideas into on-air segments.
Excellent writing vetting and production skills.
A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Superior eye and ear for pacing tone presentation and production.
Must be capable of original and creative thought in the production of television news.
Demonstrated news judgment under tight deadline conditions.
Demonstrated team leader with solid people skills who can direct perform and delegate assignments across editorial production and technical lines.
Experience using Vizrt iNews and Media Central.
Familiar with Ross OverDrive Automation workflows.
Must be able to solve problems quickly independently and in-group discussions.
Ability to perform and willingness to learn other producer roles in the newsroom.
Embraces change and experimentation.
Lives and promotes the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Strong knowledge and understanding of and/or connection to underrepresented communities across Canada.
Demonstrates a deep understanding and appreciation of the different cultures opinions and experiences that make up contemporary Canada (new diverse younger audience).

Ability to work in a high pressure environment and to tight deadlines.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Flexibility to adapt to changing work patterns and methods. Although this is a regular scheduled morning shift it may require flexibility with working hours to cover operational needs.
Having experience in a live control room is an asset.
