The Catherine Cutler Institute at the University of Southern Maine in partnership with the Maine CDC is seeking a Research Associate I: Epidemiologist.

TheResearch Associate Iassists a team of USM epidemiologists in building epidemiology at USM and Maine CDC (the states health department) specifically focusing on topics in Environmental Health.

The Research Associate will be responsible for aspects of creating implementing and sustaining systems for public health surveillance within the Maine CDC. This includes assessing the burden and trends of environmental health-related outcomes exposuresand risk factors in the general population and among sub-populations. This position will provide epidemiology support to programs within Maine CDCs Toxicology and Environmental Epidemiology Program (TEEP) including Maines Environmental Public Health Tracking Program Climate and Health Program and partner activities (e.g. carbon monoxide poisoning surveillance childhood lead poisoning prevention water quality surveillance) as addition the RA-I will collaborate on epidemiologic studies with Maine CDC programs and with partners in other state and federal agencies.

This is a grant funded position with a starting annual salary up to $65000. This is a hybrid remote position with in-office days at the Maine CDC building in Augusta.

  • Masters Degree in Epidemiology Public Health or related field preferably from an accredited school of public health and a minimum of 1 year of epidemiologic-related work experience.
  • Demonstrated mastery of basic principles of epidemiology and public health.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills including knowledge of major computer-based statistical packages preferably SAS.
