Job Summary

Dorchester County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Career Coach to support middle and/or high school students in developing clear actionable pathways toward college careers and industry credentials. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Career & Technology Education and Coordinator of CTE & Career Counseling this role emphasizes career exploration workforce readiness and postsecondary planning while aligning with the Maryland State Department of Education Blueprint for Marylands Future.

The Career Coach works collaboratively with school staff CTE instructors local businesses and community partners to ensure all students graduate with a personalized postsecondary plan.

*As of July 1 2026 this position will be an eleven (11) month full-time benefitted position.

DUTIES:

  • Deliver career exploration instruction aligned with the Maryland State Department of Educations Blueprint for Marylands Future.
  • Plan coordinate and supervise career development activities including college technical school and business tours; job-embedded field trips; career and employment fairs; and guest speakers.
  • Administer and support student use of career interest assessments and related evaluation tools.
  • Educate students on opportunities for apprenticeships career pathways leading to industry-recognized credentials postsecondary education occupational training and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Analyze and interpret student data (e.g. interest inventories career surveys) using platforms such as Naviance or other approved systems.
  • Collaborate with school counselors to support students postsecondary planning and career goals.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in individual and small-group settings focused on developing career readiness skills.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with business and industry leaders to increase student access to career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with school staff to identify and expand career awareness and work-based learning partnerships with community and business organizations.
  • Collect and analyze feedback on career awareness experiences; use findings to inform program improvements and report recommendations to supervisors.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills while effectively teaching advising mentoring and collaborating with students families colleagues and community partners in both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services Business Social Science Education or related field.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to teach advise mentor and collaborate face-to-face and virtually with a wide range of learners and stakeholders (students parents colleagues business partners).
  • General knowledge of school organization and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.
  • Experience in youth development.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and some Saturdays.
  • Ability to earn the Global Career Development Facilitator certificate School Career Development Advisor certificate or comparable credential within the 1st year of employment.
