Position Overview
The Occupational Therapist (OT) supports scholars in developing the functional skills necessary to succeed academically socially and physically within the school environment. This role is critical in helping scholars access the curriculum and build independence through targeted evidence-based interventions.
The OT works collaboratively with educators families and multidisciplinary teams to deliver services aligned to each scholars Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Intervention
Provide occupational therapy evaluations and re-evaluations in accordance with IDEA guidelines
Develop and implement IEP goals related to fine motor skills sensory processing self-care and school participation
Deliver direct and consultative OT services based on student needs
Utilize research-based strategies to improve access to instruction and engagement
Collaboration & Consultation
Partner with teachers to embed strategies into classroom instruction
Provide recommendations for accommodations modifications and adaptive equipment
Collaborate with Special Education staff related service providers and families
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain accurate timely and compliant documentation of services and progress
Ensure adherence to federal state (DESE) and district guidelines
Monitor and report student progress toward IEP goals
Capacity Building
Qualifications
Required:
Masters degree in Occupational Therapy
Current Arkansas OT license (or eligibility for licensure)
NBCOT certification
Knowledge of IDEA IEP processes and school-based therapy practices
Preferred:
Experience in a school setting
Strong understanding of sensory integration and trauma-informed practices
Ability to work in a collaborative fast-paced educational environment
