General Manager. Payment Gateway
Position Overview
On behalf of our client we are looking for a General Manager who will lead the end-to-end build launch and scale the iGaming payment gateway of the company. Your role combines fintech delivery regulatory ownership and operational control. Your goal is a compliant stable high-throughput payment platform for global iGaming operators.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Own product strategy roadmap and go-to-market execution
Own full P&L with clear revenue and margin accountability
Assess new markets verticals and partnership opportunities
Act as senior representative with regulators banks and key partners
Product & Technology
Lead MVP delivery and Smart Cashier roadmap
Set architecture direction balancing speed scale and compliance
Prioritise features based on merchant demand and market position
Maintain 99.9% uptime SLA and sub-2-second transaction latency
Compliance & Risk Management
Secure and maintain payment licences across target jurisdictions
UK Malta Gibraltar Anjouan
Maintain PCI DSS Level 1 certification and pass annual audits
Design and operate AML and KYC frameworks to regulatory standards
Keep fraud losses below 0.5% while protecting approval rates
Operations & Partnerships
Negotiate and manage acquiring banks processors and PSPs
Build merchant onboarding with a 24-hour integration target
Set up customer support and dispute handling workflows
Build treasury and FX controls for multi-currency processing
Team Building
Hire and lead teams across engineering compliance operations and sales
Set clear standards for execution compliance and customer outcomes
Build a leadership bench that supports scale
Required Qualifications
8 years in payments fintech or financial services
3 years in senior leadership roles
Strong knowledge of card schemes and alternative payment methods
Experience operating in regulated environments. iGaming preferred
Proven delivery of payment products at scale
Strong command of PCI DSS AML KYC and cross-border regulation
P&L ownership with measurable growth results
Technical fluency to work directly with engineering leadership
Preferred Experience
GM VP Product or Head of Payments in a gateway or processor
Direct experience securing EU payment licences
Active relationships with acquiring banks and PSPs
Exposure to high-risk merchant categories
MBA or relevant advanced degree
Success Metrics. Year One
Launch MVP with 5 payment methods
Sign 10 active merchant clients
Process $50M GMV with 99.5% uptime
Secure UK Malta and Anjouan licences
Build a 1520 person team across product tech compliance and ops
Keep fraud below 0.5% and chargebacks below 1%
