Job Summary:
The DK-6 Literacy Specialist is responsible for providing expert guidance and support in literacy instruction for students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. This role involves collaborating with teachers administrators and families to ensure the development of essential reading writing speaking and listening skills in young learners. The DK-6 Literacy Specialist designs and delivers targeted interventions assesses student progress and provides professional development to educators to enhance literacy instruction across the curriculum.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Education Literacy or related field (Masters degree preferred).
- Valid teaching license/certification.
- Extensive experience in literacy instruction at the elementary level.
- Knowledge of literacy assessment tools and data analysis methods.
- Strong understanding of literacy development and instructional strategies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers administrators and families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience providing professional development and coaching to educators.
- Commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Develop and implement differentiated literacy instruction plans based on student needs and learning styles.
- Provide individual or small-group interventions to support struggling readers and writers.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy skills into content areas.
- Select and adapt instructional materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Monitor and analyze student progress data to inform instructional decision-making.
- Provide ongoing professional development and coaching to teachers on effective literacy instructional strategies.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to share student progress and provide resources for literacy support at home.
- Stay current on research and best practices in literacy instruction including but not limited to the K-12 State of Michigan Literacy and Dyslexia Law.
- Advocate for policies and practices that promote literacy achievement for all students.
