The Saint Gabriel Preschool Center was established in the Alexandria community in 1970 under the supervision of The Poor Sisters of Saint Joseph. The Poor Sisters are an independent Catholic congregation established in the 1880s in Argentina and now serve in the United States Argentina Uruguay Romania Madagascar and Italy.

This Sisters mission guided by the Catholic faith is focused on service education and charity. The Sisters main goal is to share the love of God through the teaching of the Catholic faith. The Sisters strive and pray for the children to encounter Jesus Christ in everything they do.

Position Summary

St. Gabriel Preschool Center a Catholic early childhood program serving children ages 25 is seeking a Lead Teacher to provide overall classroom leadership instruction and supervision in a faith-filled nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a play-based curriculum supporting childrens spiritual and developmental growth supervising Assistant Teachers and building strong partnerships with families in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate play-based curriculum
  • Integrate Catholic values and faith formation into daily classroom activities
  • Provide leadership and supervision of the classroom and Assistant Teachers
  • Ensure a safe structured and engaging learning environment
  • Observe assess and document student progress
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student development
  • Maintain compliance with Virginia licensing standards (ratios supervision safety)
  • Collaborate with staff and participate in meetings and professional development

Qualifications

  • Meets Virginia VDOE requirements for Lead Teacher
  • Bachelors degree Associates degree with experience or CDA with 1 years teaching experience
  • Experience working with children ages 25
  • Strong classroom management communication and leadership skills
  • Commitment to supporting a Catholic faith-based learning environment
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred

  • Experience in a Catholic or faith-based school
  • Experience leading a classroom and supervising assistants
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Position Details

  • Schedule: MondayFriday 8:00 AM 4:00 PM
  • Pay: commensurate with education and experience
  • Location: Alexandria VA (in-person)
