Job Summary
The Electrical Component Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance testing and operational readiness of electrical components within a nuclear power plant. This includes breakers relays transformers generators motors and cables. The role involves ensuring that these components are qualified maintained and operated in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards to support safe and efficient plant operations.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
Component Qualification and Maintenance:- Ensure that electrical components are qualified in accordance with 10 CFR 50.49 and other applicable regulations.
- Develop and implement maintenance programs for breakers relays transformers generators motors and cables to ensure they remain operational and compliant with safety standards.
- Conduct periodic inspections and testing to assess the condition of electrical components and identify any potential issues or degradation.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to electrical components.
Design and Modification:- Participate in the design and modification of electrical systems to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Review and approve design changes to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.
- Ensure that all modifications are properly documented and implemented in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Regulatory Compliance:- Ensure that all electrical components are installed tested and maintained in accordance with the General Design Criteria (GDC) 1 2 4 and 23 of Appendix A to 10 CFR Part 50.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and updates to ensure compliance with the latest standards and requirements.
- Prepare and submit reports and documentation to regulatory agencies as required.
Training and Documentation:- Provide training to plant personnel on the proper operation and maintenance of electrical components.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including maintenance procedures test results and component qualification records.
- Ensure that all documentation is accurate complete and readily available for review by regulatory agencies and plant personnel.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:- Identify and address potential issues or challenges related to electrical components including environmental qualification seismic qualification and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electrical systems.
- Participate in root cause analyses and corrective action programs to prevent recurrence of equipment failures or operational issues.
Education Experience and Skill Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program or a related field
- Minimum 6 years of relevant job experience in electrical engineering with a focus on power generation and distribution systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems including breakers relays transformers generators motors and cables. Proficiency in using engineering software and tools such as CAD and simulation software. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Metrics:
- Prepare engineering reports and component health assessments
- Perform tasks in accordance with established expectations for nuclear safety and personnel safety
- May be responsible for developing other employees in area of expertise
- Serves a lead role on projects teams processes or programs related to rotating equipment
- One of few who possess abilities not easily gained and of significant depth in rotating equipment expertise
Up to 25% travel may be required to corporate locations power plants other utilities and industry meetings to support work activities.
This position can be located at any of our nuclear sites.
