- Appropriate state licensure
- Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience
- Experience with curriculum and instructional leadership
- Knowledge and understanding of DESE Standards for Accreditation
- Proven leadership skills
- Possess positive collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Central office experience preferred
JOB SUMMARY:
The assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction is responsible for supervising overseeing and coordinating all curricular and instructional programs in schools throughout the district and all programs and services related to these areas. To meet this responsibility the assistant superintendent supervises and evaluates principals and other certified administrators not reporting to principals and assures district compliance with accreditation standards and state-of-the-art instructional practices in the schools.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction reports to the Superintendent of Schools. He/she works cooperatively with the assistant superintendent for special programs and support services and supervises building principals and other certified employees with district-wide responsibilities.
The assistant superintendent also oversees individuals who work with staff development testing and textbook selection; serves as the district-wide equity coordinator and grievance hearing officer and represents the district as the administrative representative on the Personnel Policies Committee. Periodically he/she will be asked by the Superintendent to address the Board on matters pertaining to his/her responsibilities and duties.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction will have the following responsibilities and duties:
- Supervision and evaluation of building principals and other licensed employees with district-wide responsibilities.
- Preparation review and analysis of instruction budgets including resource allocation and instructional expenditures.
- Selection of candidates for the Superintendents review for vacancies to be filled by licensed administrators.
- Oversight and monitoring of District compliance with accreditation standards.
- Overall management supervision and analysis of curriculum revision and initiatives staff development district testing textbook selection instructional technology implementation special education and gifted and talented.
- Performance of duties as district-wide grievance hearing officer and equity coordinator.
- If designated by the Superintendent performance of duties as an administrative representative on the Personnel Policies Committee.
