PRIMARY SCOPE
The Site Safety Specialist supports general industry construction and mining operations by ensuring compliance with safety regulations identifying and controlling hazards and promoting a strong safety culture. This role provides on-site guidance conducts inspections and training and works closely with employees and management to maintain a safe productive and compliant workplace.
This position requires a constant presence at the assigned jobsite during all active work hours. The position also requires extensive travel and a willingness to work on a demanding schedule including nights and weekends as required to meet project objectives.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Conduct daily/weekly site inspections and document hazards.
- Lead Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs Job Safety Analyses (JSAs or risk assessments.
- Manage permits (hot work confined space excavation blasting lifting plans etc.).
- Evaluate high-risk tasks such as confined space entry energized work excavation blasting heavy equipment operations and working at heights.
- Recommend controls following the hierarchy of controls.
- Conduct safety inspections or audits; incident investigations; and equipment inspections to mitigate risk
- Partner with the project managers and site foreman to interpret evaluate and provide technical guidance on project safety requirements incident investigation and implement corrective action measures
- Develop and conduct onsite worker training on safety laws and regulations hazardous condition monitoring of all needed Site Risk Assessments and use of safety equipment at job site locations
- Implement site-specific safety plans (SSSP) mine safety programs emergency response plans and hazard communication (HazCom) programs.
- Monitor contractor compliance with project and Mine safety requirements.
- May deliver required training (e.g. new hire orientation equipment operation hazard recognition PPE lockout/tagout fall protection and site-specific mining training) and Contractor Site Specific trainings.
- Conduct toolbox talks pre-shift safety meetings and refresher sessions.
- Verify worker qualifications permits and task training.
- Monitor compliance with EMOSHA MSHA NFPA ICC EPA and DOT regulations in accordance with statutory and contractual requirements
- Administer and manage the substance abuse testing and occupational health programs for the organization
- Compile analyze and report statistical data related to occupational illnesses and incidents as required
- Monitor atmospheric hazards dust levels noise exposure and ventilation in mining areas.
- Assist with detailed incident investigations and root cause analysis compliance reviews general risk assessments and other employee health and wellness evaluations to support health safety and environmental management initiatives
- Comply with all Federal and company policies procedures and standards of safety
- Promote a strong safety culture through coaching and one-on-one interactions.
- Encourage hazard reporting and Stop Work Obligation.
- Participate in safety committees audits and leadership safety walks.
- Assists Reginal Safety Manager with data and statistics coordinating and scheduling site visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- 6 years of experience in 1910 general industry part 46 or part 48 mining or 1926 construction safety professional experience in heavy construction.
- Current OSHA 30-hour in construction certification Fisher will provide training if needed
- Current First aid CPR Fisher will provide training if needed
- Current competent person training in; fall protection excavation confined space and lockout/tagout Fisher will provide training if needed
- Must meet EMSSHO certification Fisher will provide training if needed
- Proficient in MS Office Bluebeam
- Must have ability to wear full construction PPE to include fall arrest harnesses or respirators
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Acceptable MVR in accordance with Fishers Company Vehicle Program policy
- Ability to complete work tasks under various adverse weather conditions including heat above 100 degrees cold and rain
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and government background check
